Jordan's Story
Rusty and Brandi found out at 34 weeks during an ultrasound that their son Jordan Thad Lawrence "Jordy" had a congenital heart defect. Because of the potential for heart surgery at birth Brandi and Rusty were advised to deliver at Duke. Brandi was induced at 39 weeks and Jordan was born November 11th, 2017 at 3:06 am. Jordan was 6lbs 5oz. Upon birth Jordan was diagnosed with a rare genetic condition called Goldenhar Syndrome. Jordan has been in the NICU at Duke University Medical Center since birth reviving numerous consults and tests. Because of this syndrome Jordan has a number of medical issues including his heart defect, a vascular ring, skin tags, under development of the jaw, fused ribs and missing cervical vertebrae. Jordan is strong and is a survivor but he will have a long journey his first year of life with potential heart surgery, plastic surgery and physical therapy. He is a beautiful, strong and precious baby boy and his parents and big brother Noah cannot wait to take him home. Rusty and Brandi are looking forward to Jordan's road to recovery and appreciate all the prayers, love and support!
Jordan Thad Lawrence came into the world Saturday November 11th and BLESSED our souls, but he has also changed our core existences forever as we embrace this precious boy’s struggles and prepare for the journey ahead.
Jordy’s mother and father, Brandi and Rusty are two of the most genuinely beautiful people that you will ever meet and if you have met them I know you agree! You also know that I am not just talking about the love, compassion and positivity they radiate and share with all their friends, their family and even new people they meet. Jordan’s big brother, Noah was born two years ago and when you see his smiles and hear his laughter you know this extremely happy and loving boy is living with two parents that are doing a great job raising him with nothing other than totally extreme love.
Our hearts felt broken a few months ago when we got the unexpected news that Jordan had heart defects and may require heart surgery immediately after birth. Rusty and Brandi would have to go to Duke to deliver however this news was just a smidgen of what was to come. Once Jordan was born the long hours in the hospital, the numerous tests and the long waits for answers appeared to be taking a toll on Rusty and Brandi but unexpectedly they swiftly embraced the present, Jordan’s condition and became determined that Jordy will flourish and be okay, there is no other outcome to accept! The family rallied, and all the grandparents, great grandparents, aunts, uncles, siblings, cousins, and family friends have been there for this precious family with prayers and helping in any way possible. I now want to use this GoFund so everyone and anyone who can will help them by taking some of their stresses away with the enormous financial burdens they are facing.
