Update 07/08/17. Thank you, everybody, for your support. We are amazed at how generous people have been. Royal Children's Hospital Melbourne Global Retrieval Team have quoted us $130,000 AUD to transport Caroline while she is still on the ventilator. Gofundme will take about $10,000 in fees so we're now aiming to raise $140,000 AUD. It's a huge ask but the kindness everyone has shown has encouraged us. Please help us get Caroline to Australia ASAP.
Our baby girl Caroline was born January 2017 in Vietnam (Australian father, Vietnamese mother). She was born with 22q11.2 deletion syndrome which has caused many symptoms:
A hole in her heart, a narrow and disconnected Aorta, Hypothyroidism, no Parathyroid glands, no Thymus and difficulty breathing.
She has been on a ventilator, in the intensive care unit of Children's Hospital 2, for almost 6 months. We need to get Caroline to Melbourne, Australia. She needs major heart surgery and ongoing treatment.
Caroline was too sick to be transported but now her condition has improved. Once she gets the doctor's clearance, we have International SOS ready to transport her on a commercial flight medivac. They haven't given us an exact quote but it will cost between 50,000 to 80,000 USD. We need the money as soon as possible in case her health declines and we miss this window of opportunity.
Update 07/08/17. Caroline's health improved, she was taken off the ventilator for one day but had to be put back on it, now we are trying to get her on a medivac flight with a ventilator.
We don't have insurance or enough money. The Royal Children's Hospital has some of the best heart surgeons in the world. Please help, by donating and sharing this story, we can all give Caroline the best chance at life. Any advice on transporting sick babies to Australia is appreciated.
