Be a Guardian of Life: Help Us Turn Poachers into Protectors at The Driftwood Surfer Turtle Hatchery
Greetings, Compassionate Souls!
In the tranquil landscapes of El Paredon, on the Guatemalan Pacific coast, a paradox exists - a cruel, yet legal practice of turtle egg poaching threatens the delicate balance of our marine ecosystem. Yet, within this very setting, a beacon of hope shines brightly: The Driftwood Surfer Turtle Hatchery, a sanctuary where life is given a second chance.
Transforming Poachers into Protectors
In Guatemala, it remains legal to poach the eggs of the magnificent Parlama or Olive Ridley turtles, a grim reality that endangers their very existence. At the Driftwood Surfer Turtle Hatchery, we've initiated a revolutionary approach to subvert this crisis and to foster a harmonious relationship between humans and these majestic marine creatures.
By law, egg collectors are required to hand over 20% of their haul to hatcheries like ours. Taking a step further, we at Driftwood buy back the remaining 80% of the eggs, an effort that not only ensures the survival of these incredible beings but also provides a means of livelihood for local families who once depended on selling these eggs elsewhere.
Each year, through this initiative, we manage to secure the future of approximately 70,000 eggs, preventing them from falling into the wrong hands and instead, nurturing them till they can make their vital journey to the sea.
Your Golden Opportunity to Make a Difference
Here's where your precious contribution comes into play. For just 100 Quetzales (approximately 13 USD or 12 Euros), you have the golden opportunity to adopt a full nest. Imagine having a hundred baby turtles thriving under your patronage, each tiny creature carrying the name of hope and survival bestowed by you.
Witness the Miracle of Life
By joining our initiative, you not only become a guardian of life but also get to witness the miraculous journey of these hatchlings first-hand. From mid-September to mid-December, we invite you to be a part of our special donation-based tours that commence at the crack of dawn at 5:45 AM. Experience the sheer magic as these little fighters make their daring trek towards the vast ocean, fighting against the odds to secure their place in the circle of life. It is an awe-inspiring sight that leaves an indelible mark on your heart, reminding you of the fragile yet tenacious essence of life.
Join the The Driftwood Family: Where Every Turtle Counts
This is not just a donation but an invitation to become a part of a larger family, a global community striving to transform the fate of these marine wonders. Together, we can rewrite their stories from tragedy to triumph, from victimhood to victory.
We welcome you to witness this transformation up close, to engage with our dedicated team, and to immerse yourself in the thrilling and fulfilling journey of saving lives, one egg at a time.
Be the Change: Adopt a Nest Today
Join us today, adopt a nest, and become a pivotal force in turning the tide for these enchanting beings. Your small act of kindness can ripple into a wave of change, safeguarding our oceans' natural heritage for generations to come. In these moments, we come together as guardians, united in our mission to protect and preserve.
Note: After the magical experience of releasing the baby turtles into their natural habitat, you are always welcome to join us over for a heartwarming cup of coffee at Driftwood. It is here that the circle of life is respected, celebrated, and nurtured with love and commitment.
Together, we are not just spectators but active participants in a movement that is larger than life itself. Be part of this circle of protection and love at the Driftwood Surfer Turtle Hatchery.
A Momento of Your Kindness: To immortalize your generous act, we will send you a photo of the nest you adopted, a snapshot that symbolizes hope and a new beginning for these precious marine lives. Let's build a brighter future together, one turtle at a time :)
