In 2017, Mike and I got serious about trying to start a family. In November, I made a visit to my OBGYN to make sure we were on the right track and through that exam, an abnormality was discovered. After a biopsy, at the beginning of December, I was diagnosed with Stage 1 Cervical Cancer. To treat it I will have to have a hysterectomy. This means I will not be able to have a child naturally. We have decided to try have a biological child via surrogacy in the future. The oncologist has recommended doing IVF and freezing embryos before surgery. We are trying to complete this in the next two weeks to expedite surgery.
Most people who who reach this point in their fertility journey have time to plan financially. We have had less than two months. Although Tricare has been amazing for my other procedures, it will not cover any of this process. Many people have asked how they can help. We have ZERO expectations of anyone helping, but decided to do this to provide a tangible opportunity to do so. Most importantly, we are so grateful for everyone’s prayers, love, and support!
IVF to freeze embryos will cost us $7,000. I started our goal at half of that total. If we go above and beyond the $7k, we will use the money to cover medical bills and save for surrogacy costs which could run upwards of $100k. We will probably start that journey once I am cancer free!
UPDATE: Thank you everyone! Because of you, we were able to raise enough to cover most of the initial embryo freezing costs. We are now in the process of trying to begin the process of having a biological child through a gestational carrier.
