Tiny Thaddeus Neil Threatte was welcome into the world unexpectedly four months early when mom Meagan was diagnosed with preeclampsia. This is a rare condition causing mom to have unexplained high blood pressure and other life threatening medical issues that put herself and baby at risk. Early Saturday December 2, 2017 Thad was delivered via emergency c-section. He came out fighting with a little cry and flailing of his arms and legs before he was placed on a ventilator to assist his breathing. He weighed in at 15 oz and 10.5 inches. That is less than a pound, so unbelievably tiny. Thad is now residing in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte, NC. The hospital is about an hour away from Joey and Meagan's home in Rockwell, NC. He is doing as well as can be expected for a 24 weeker but it is hour by hour changes. Meagan herself is on the road to recovery and she is now able to focus on baby Thad.
The community has shown an outpouring amount of support and prayers for Thad and his family which they are so thankful for and will continue to need. This is going to be such a long journey for the family and we would like to do all we can to help take a little stress off of their shoulders. One of the most important things is for them to be with their son. This will mean time away from work and home, long drives for visits, fast meals and other unexpected expenses.
Meagan and Joey have prayed so hard for this child as they have faced many challenges to even get where they are today. Meagan had to endure years of doctor visits and hormone treatments as they had to go through IVF as well as a miscarriage earlier in the year. Both Meagan and Joey have been so positive throughout the entire process and are going to make such wonderful parents. They are such fabulous friends and show so much love to their nieces and friends children. They are absolute naturals and Thad is lucky to call them mom and dad.
