Baby Spencer's Battle

Some of you may already know that two of our best friends, Brittany and Erin are expecting their second baby boy in March. It was identified by ultrasound that baby Spencer will be born with a congenital heart defect known as Transposition of the Great Vessels and a Ventral Septal Defect. This is a serious and rare condition in which the two main arteries leaving his heart are reversed. Transposition of the great arteries changes the way blood circulates through the body, leaving a shortage of oxygen in blood flowing from the heart to the rest of the body. Without an adequate supply of oxygen-rich blood, the body can't function properly and Spencer faces serious complications without treatment. These abnormalities will require open heart surgery within the first week that he is born. With proper treatment, the outlook is very promising. We are asking that you please join with us in prayer as this family prepares for the surgery and bringing this beautiful baby boy into the world.
Brittany and Erin are a one income family and this surgery and post-surgery recovery will require Brittany to take at least one unpaid month off of work. We are asking for our community to come around them and support them with encouragement, prayer and finances. Although insurance will be covering parts of the birth and surgery, there will still be a significant financial burden laid upon them that we would like to help alleviate as much as possible. Spencer's birth and surgery will take place in Miami and will require Britt and Erin to spend a good amount of time and money traveling back and forth and staying in hotels. As you can imagine, this will be a long term fight and battle for this family that will not end with his surgery as Spencer will need many special accommodations throughout the first year of his life.
We would love to have these funds raised before he is born on March 7th. This will allow Brittany and Erin to focus solely on their son and his recovery from surgery without having to worry about their financial situation. Any amount you can donate will help this family and we appreciate your support.
