Baby Ronan Duffy DeLancy

Hi, my name is Brenna and I’m fundraising for my sister Katherine and her husband Mitch DeLancy. They brought beautiful, perfectly healthy, 8 1/2 pound baby boy Ronan into the world on May 21. He came home to a loving family and 2 year old sister who were overjoyed to meet him. Ten days later he was rushed to Yale New Haven Children’s Hospital with seizures. He stopped breathing as they arrived. He was immediately intubated and placed on a ventilator and a medically induced coma, while doctors in the NICU have frantically tried to determine what is wrong with him. After countless blood tests, genetic profiles, lumbar punctures, CAT scans, and MRIs, they now believe this was caused by the human parechovirus (HPeV), a relatively common virus that can be devastating to newborns. In Ronan’s case, the virus attacked his brain and has created a condition called Encephalomalacia, which means the white matter in much of his brain has been destroyed. Kat and Mitch are still working with teams of neurologists and infectious disease specialists to bring baby Ronan out of the coma and determine whether he can come off the ventilator. Each time they reduce his meds, his seizures return. He has been in this medically induced coma for over two weeks and the family has been devastated watching their newest member suffer this terrible fate. I have set up this GoFundMe request on Kat and Mitch’s behalf to help cover medical bills and whatever care Ronan may need as he struggles to survive. At this point we are uncertain of his fate but I will post updates as we have them. Kat and Mitch are wonderful, loving parents and I thank everyone who is kind enough to donate to help get them through this tragic time so they can continue to focus on taking care of baby Ronan.
