Roman was born on 3/6/23 and that’s where his journey began. Roman was initially going to be a natural birth but ended up getting stuck in mommas pelvis thus a C section was required. It took several doctors to get him out and when he was finally out, he was not breathing. (I’ll spare the traumatic C section story)
The medical staff acted quickly and was able to start breathing for him. Roman is such a fighter that he was able to start breathing on his own. When the hospital staff began running tests it was discovered he was acidotic and the concern of brain damage came about due to the lack of oxygen.
Banner University had a brand new piece of technology that Roman was wrapped in to keep his core temperature low so the risk of brain damage was lower. Over the next 72 hours his brain activity and body were heavily monitored for any signs of seizures.
On 3/9/2023 Roman was taken off his cooling pad and his body temperature was returned to normal and by the grace of god and some luck, it is looking like he will make a full recovery. He will remain in the NICU for the remainder of the week but his graduation date is still unknown. Many tests still need to be done prior to Roman coming home but things are looking positive!
Me being a police officer and Dani being a psych nurse, we’ve seen and been through many traumatic incidents but nothing has come close to the amount of stress this birth has put us through. Roman has put us through the ringer for being our first child but god works in mysterious ways and everything happens for a reason!
Everyone that knows our family knows we do not ask for handouts or sympathy but we are also not naïve to think it’s ok to ask for help. We are not asking anyone to put our family before theirs but if you would like to donate, anything and I mean anything helps.
love,
The Hansen Family.
