Little Mia's Mission

Donation protected
My brother David and his wife Kristen have a beautiful 23 month old little girl Mia Nicole. Mia is a bubbly, happy and extremely smart little girl who had appeared to be completely healthy until just a few weeks ago. The last several days have been nothing short of a nightmare for the three of them and our family.

All of a sudden Mia was losing her balance and falling more for a toddler of her age.  After a few visits to the pediatrician due to her lack of balance, my brother and sister-in-law decided to rush her to the ER after she was complaining of headaches.  It was there last Saturday the ER did a CT scan only to find Mia had a mass on her brain.  She was then airlifted to The Childrens Hospital Of Philadelphia (CHOP) and admitted into the PICU. She immediately had a tube inserted into her head to drain the spinal fluid that was circulating around her brain and causing pressure.  The following day she went in for brain surgery to remove the tumor. The neurosurgeon immediately identified it to be aggressive and malignant. The biopsy results came in several days following the operation only to confirm that the tumor was NOT benign; it was malignant and was diagnosed as AT/RT- Atypical teratoid rhabdoid tumor.  AT/RT is a very rare and aggressive cancerous tumor of the brain and spinal cord. The disease is most often seen in children age 3 or younger but is found only in fewer then 10% of children with brain tumors.  Every three in one million children are sadly diagnosed with AT/RT.

Treatment depends on the size and location of the tumor as well as the childs age.  Fortunately, for Mia, the whole tumor was successfully removed during surgery which increased Mia's odds from a low of 10% to a more hopeful 30%. Mia will be starting chemo therapy at CHOP for the next year, during the first week of October. Once she turns 3, she will then be strong enough to begin radiation treatments which in turn will inrease her odds to a more promising 80-90%.

Mia is an extremely strong little girl with a passion for life! We all will be loving and supporting her every step of the way! This is certainly going to be a challenging year ahead for my little niece, brother and sister-in-law. Sadly, when tragic events occur life still goes on and the bills keep on coming. I am reaching out to all of you in support of their family. Every hard earned penny, every loving prayer will make a huge difference in their lives. We all know that monetarily the most important things in life cannot be fixed. Please consider donating to this loving family of three to help alleviate some of the financial burden on them so their hearts and souls can focus on healing their baby girl.

My family and I thank you in advance!
