My husband and I have had the privilege to know Kylan and Lisa Kottenstette as individuals, a dating couple, an engaged couple, married friends, and all of these years later we find ourselves young parents together. Lisa and I were pregnant together with our first borns, and again were pregnant together for our second babies.
Right after Christmas 2017, Kylan and Lisa found out that their second baby "K" has Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome. This is a congenital heart defect that will require him or her to have surgery within the first week of life, a second surgery around three to six months, and a third surgery around age three to four. Right after birth, Kylan and Lisa will only have a few hours with Baby K until he or she will need to go to the NICU for monitoring and preparation for the first surgery. Lisa will be discharged from the hospital a day or two after delivery, but Baby K will remain at Presbyterian St Luke's for surgery and post operative recovery. This is an anticipated stay of four to six weeks total. During this time, Kylan and Lisa, along with two year old daughter Karalee, will be staying at the Ronald McDonald house.
As you all know, when you're away from home, even for the weekend, costs add up quickly. The Ronald McDonald house is a charitable organization where families of children in need of hospitalizations can stay for a reduced cost-$20 a day will provide Kylan, Lisa and Karalee lodging and one meal a day.
Between the fee for the Ronald McDonald House, has for getting around, the other two meals a day, snacks for Karalee, not to mention healthy snacks for hungry new mama- the cost of their day to day will add up. This will be the first of many stays for them as they continue on this journey,
