Baby Jack Mendez

Donation protected
On February 11th, 2018, Jack Mendez was born to parents Lauren and Diego. He was so eager to meet his big brother, Cash, that he arrived a full 8 weeks early. As we all know, this level of prematurity at birth can lead to complications; Jack is currently residing in the NICU and it's looking like his stay will last another 16 weeks.

Jack has big beautiful eyes, a full head of dark hair, and most importantly: he's a fighter. While the doctors are still unsure of exactly what Jack's journey will look like, he is currently working on breathing on his own. Though he is growing, slow and steady, he has many obstacles yet to hurtle. He is unable to cry, and is having trouble swallowing. He has begun to move his arms and legs but the progress remains minimal. He is being fed Lauren’s milk through tubes, so his nutrition is good even though he cannot, as of this date, nurse from his mom.

While this situation is obviously emotionally draining for Lauren, Diego, and Cash, it is also financially draining. No matter how much you plan, there is no way to be fully prepared when something like this happens to your young family. Though Jack's extended care needs are unknown at this time, it is safe to estimate that he will continue to stay in the hospital for at least 16 weeks.

Lauren, Diego, Cash, and baby Jack are in dire need of your help, both emotionally and financially. Kind words and prayers are always appreciated, but as they continue to need time away from work and school to be at the hospital with Jack, the Mendez family needs your help with their expenses. All donations made will go towards gift cards for food for their family, $60 a week for breast milk storage bags so Jack can get adequate nutririon at the hospital (nearly $1,000 during his 16 week stay), increased transportation expenses to and from the hospital and Cash's child-care, childcare for Cash as his parents need to work and be at the hospital, increased living expenses due to reduced time to work, and all the many, many expenses that come with an extended hospital stay.

While the situation is currently quite desperate, there is hope for baby Jack and his future as a healthy little boy. The brightest silver lining  they have recieved so far is that Jack's brain MRI has shown no damage. Your donations will ensure that his family can support him during this journey and let him reach his incredible potential.
