Baby Hollis - Josh and Ashley B.

Josh and Ashley Bauserman and baby boy Hollis
Josh, Ashley, and Callie Ann are expanding their family of 3 and will be welcoming baby boy Hollis in September/October 2017.  During Ashley's 20-week biophysical ultrasound, they learned that Hollis has spina bifida (an incomplete closing of the backbone and membranes around the spinal cord).  Ashley's family did extensive research about spina bifida and treatment options for myelomeningocele, leading them to Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP).  Josh, Ashley and Hollis went through extensive testing at CHOP to determine they were eligible for intraunterine fetal surgery to repair the myelomeningocele and prevent further damange.  Fetal surgery for spina bifida is not a cure, but can greatly reduce the need to divert fluid from the brain, improves mobility and improves the chances that a child will be able to walk independently.

On July 25, Ashley underwent a successful intrauterine fetal surgery to repair the area in Hollis' back that had not formed completely.  Recovery from the surgery is modified bedrest, in which Josh and Ashley will need to remain in Philadelphia for at least 4-6 weeks, in which if everything is well, they may be able to come back to Virginia and must remain within 30-45 minutes of the University of Virginia Hospital for the duration of the pregnancy.  Josh and Ashley, both, have to be away from their home and their jobs for weeks, and one can only imagine the financial burden this would place on any family.

More than anything, please pray for Josh, Ashley, Callie Ann and Hollis, but if you can financially, let's help eliminate some undue stress for Josh and Ashley as they are away from their home, jobs, and family.

To think of the amazing things that God has allowed people to do with their hands, is unbelievable.  If you have a moment please read about the amazing things that CHOP does for unborn babies diagnosed with spina bifida.
