Baby Elliott memorial fund

In memory of Elliott Seamus Patrick McKenna Roddy, our red-haired little warrior whose short life touched so many hearts.

We would like to thank the staff of Crumlin Children's Hospital for their dedication and care of Elliott,  so we are raising funds for Children Medical Research Foundation, Crumlin (cmrf.org).

Elliott was born with an extremely rare combination of issues: 
  1 Right sided Congenital Diaphramatic Hernia (your diaphragm controls your breathing - he had no diaphram on his right side, so all his organs from his abdomen developed in his chest - squashing his right lung and his heart). 1 in 2,500-4,000 babies are born with this, only 20% have it on the right, these are most complicated because they involve the liver. He had two operations to repair this.
  2 He had a complicated heart condition called Tetralogy of Fallot. He had two stents which ware helping to keep his heart stable. His last operation repaired many of his heart issues, and was meant to have been his last before he was a teenager.
  3 He had one working kidney, because the other one was just cysts.
  4 He also had a condition called Heterotaxy Ambiguous, which means his organs, arteries and veins didn't develop properly or in the right places. This made procedures more tricky.

Babies born with all these issues, of which there might only be 5 or 6 worldwide a year, generally don't make it past one week. His father worked it out that Elliott is 1 in 26 million. He was nothing short of a miracle.

He was 232 days old, all spent in Pediatric Intensive Care Unit in Crumlin Children's hospital. He died from sepsis after all his operations had been a great and surprising success.
He defied the huge odds that life stacked against him from before birth.

He liked music and he smiled.
