Baby Elijah's Medical Care

Donation protected
On Christmas Day, beautiful Baby Elijah was born.

He arrived a month early and was soon after diagnosed with several medical conditions that require extra attention.

Eli has VSD, which is a heart condition that is fairly common, 1 in 100 babies are born with it.

However, Eli's condition is more serious than most, for several reasons.

First of all, he has a larger hole in the heart than usually occurs, along with a secondary hole needing repair.

Secondly, Eli contracted pneumonia which has been difficult to recover from because of the heart condition.

Eli was also born with Congenital Hypothyroidism which is being treated along side the VSD.

Eli is also being monitored for additional complications that have not yet been completely confirmed with official diagnosis.

Baby Eli's biggest challenges in recovery will be gaining weight to grow big enough for upcoming heart surgery which will happen much sooner than the average baby born with VSD.

His care will require open heart surgery in the next few weeks (how soon surgery will happen will depend on whether his condition worsens or stays the same).

In the meantime,  Eli is being breastfed by his amazing Mom, Keeley, but it is not enough calories for his little body to grow. Because of a combination of factors, he cannot use regular formula to supplement his growth and requires a special formula to do so. Eli will also require special care to ensure growth, proper oxygen and kidney function while he awaits surgery, all at much greater expense than regular care for a newborn.

VSD Heart surgery for babies born in Western Canada take place in Vancouver or Edmonton, which means in order for Eli to have his Mom there with him, she will have to travel and stay with him while he is there.

Funds are needed to help with baby Eli's start in the world. He requires extra help with the cost of speical formula and prescriptions and medical equipment, along with the large added expense of travelling out of province for at least two weeks for surgery which could potentially happen as soon as a month from now.

Part of this funding is required immediatley with the remainder needed leading up to the surgery, which is very soon.
