Darian and Mitch did not originally want to create a GoFundMe. However, we talked them into it, and they reluctantly agreed.
Darian began going into preterm labor at 26 weeks. This is obviously much earlier than anyone planned, and introduces a host of potential complications. It also takes Darian out of work much sooner than planned, and is keeping both of them preoccupied spending their time doing what is most important right now--doing everything they can to ensure the safety of their baby boy, Bodhi River Matthews.
The goal is to keep Darian pregnant and in the hospital for as many days, weeks, or months as possible so that Bodhi can continue to develop. Once born, Bodhi will spend a few months in NICU. The emotional, mental, and financial toll of this experience is more than any young parents should have to go through, and not something they should go through alone.
They do currently have health insurance, but the costs are still going to be much higher than originally anticipated, and being out of work longer won't make it any easier. The goal for this campaign is $7000, because that is their current 2019 out of pocket maximum according to their insurance plan. They will undoubtedly hit that maximum, and may have expenses starting Jan 1 that will be covered under their new policy--in which case they would start back at $0 toward their deductible.
For context, the costs of a preterm birth can be $40k, $80k, and run upwards of $250k depending on length of hospital stay, required procedures, outpatient care, etc.
In summary, it's a stressful, difficult, and very expensive situation with a lot of unknowns. If you feel led and can afford to help out, please consider.
