Baby Aidens medical journey

Baby Aiden was born 5 weeks early on December 26th 2017 and was diagnosed with Pierre Robin Sequence.  He was born at 5lbs 10oz and 19 inches long. Pierre Robin is a set of abnormalities affecting the head and face, consisting of a small lower jaw, a tongue that is placed further back then normal which blocks the airway,  and a cleft palate. The only position he can lay without difficulty breathing are his side and stomach.  Baby Aiden will spend his first few months of life in the NICU of Winnie Palmer Hosptal.

He is going to have lower mandible surgery (lower jaw distraction) at the end of February. This surgery consists of pulling his jaw a little foward each day until it is in its correct place which will allow him to breathe while on his back and allow him to tolorate feeds with a bottle without losing oxygen. Although he will be able to tolorate feeds he still has to be taught to suck, swallow and breath at the same time which will postpone him coming home. His cleft palate plays a big part in the suck, swallow and breathe process, so he will reamin in the hospital until he can feed and breathe on his own. Until the surgery, Aiden is being fed through a tube in his nose and needs a steady flow of oxygen through his nasal cannula.

I drive to the hospital everday to bring Aiden milk and hold him. All donations will help with medical, and travel expenses. Thank you for taking the time to read about our journey with Baby Aiden. All donations are greatly appreciated.
