Baba's Vegan Cafe Fund

Vegan chef Wo’se Kofi, also known as “Pattyman,” founder of Baba’s Vegan Café, was born and raised in South Los Angeles. Also known in the Inglewood area where he attended high school. He studied business at California State University--Dominguez Hills for 3 years until life took him on a different course.

In 2013, Wo’se created Baba's Café, which is a vegan vending and catering company known as a "Pop Up" shop, located in the historic Crenshaw District’s hub for African Diasporic culture, Leimert Park.  Offering a wide array of vegetarian dishes, they specialize in Vegan Veggie Patties. He also made his name after spending a few years in the late night reggae scene at the dub club, as "The Patty Man".

Now Wo’se needs your help to expand Baba’s Vegan Catering “Pop Up”, into Baba's Vegan Café in 2021, to develop a space that would offer not only healthy food, but hopefully a space for healing to the community, with classes such as yoga and meditation.  His partner Lauren Anu Wolley is a certified Kemetic Yoga Practitioner.

We currently hosts Pop Ups. Commercial kitchens can be costly and we are ready to have our own.

We hire artists and upcoming entrepreneurs from the community, as they grow we grow. It is a learning space for the youth of the community as well.

During this time people need healthy vegan options.

We took a break from fundraising for the space, focussing on raising our son now 2 1/2 years old, and a daughter on the way in March.

Baba says:

“So far we have crunched the numbers and our start up costs would be around $20,000. We would like to secure at least 4 months rent, so we aim to raise at least $25,000.

Our mission is to demonstrate that veganism is about improving our health, increasing our health awareness and thinking progressively about how we spend our dollars within the community.

Help us to make this dream a reality, to provide economic development within the Los Angeles community by partnering with various community organizations in the area to ensure that our work reaches all channels of holistic living such as culinary and self-uplifting workshops, meditation, yoga, mindfulness, healing arts, crystal technology, Afrikan dance and drumming.

We give thanks for your support.
