Fight with Mikki

Everyone goes through life hearing stories about cancer but when it touches someone so close that you love and cherish, it is absolutely heartbreaking. On July 13th 2017, our world came crashing down to hear that mom, daughter, sister, and friend, Mikki, was diagnosed with stage IV esophageal cancer that has metastasized to her lymphatic system, visceral organs, and bone marrow. After having severe stomach pain, Mikki went into the ER and while being treated for pancreatitis, the abdominal CT showed spots on an enlarged lymph node near her kidney. They ordered a needle biopsy and pathology came back as non-small cell carcinoma. After an endoscopy, they biopsied another mass near the EG junction on her esophagus and this is how they determined it was esophageal cancer. On top of the diagnosis, she had to have her gall bladder removed.

She is in the process of aggressive treatment doing bi weekly chemotherapy sessions lasting three days at a time. She also goes in almost daily for fluids, steroids, antibiotics, and anti-nausea medication. She has taken a leave of absence from work to focus on her health and family. This has put a strain on her finances. Mikki is the sole provider for her family. In the short time since her diagnosis, this single mother has been adamant that her oldest son stays in school. She is now juggling mounting medical bills, running a household and college tuition.

Having the privilege of knowing Mikki, the best word I can use to describe her is a nurturer. She is caring, self-sacrificing, and loving. Her door is always open; she is always welcoming anyone into her home. She wants nothing but the best for everyone who crosses her path. She has two sons, Kai and Tenn. However, for anyone who knows Mikki, knows that she is a mother to many. She shows unconditional love to everyone, she gives and never asks for anything in return. When you are down, it is always nice knowing that Mikki is in your corner and now it is time for us to show her that we are in her corner.

We know this type of cancer is rare, but we are all optimistic and hopeful. She has a strong support team and we are preparing for the obstacles to come. We are all hurting, but Mikki is ready to fight. Mikki is handling this trial like she has lived her life, fearlessly. This Go Fund Me is being created to help with medical expenses, treatments, and emergency finances that comes her way. Any donation would be greatly appreciated. The power of prayer is amazing. So more than anything, I ask that you keep the entire Ohmae family in your prayers.
