Marcy's Medical Fund

Reaching out for help for someone very special to me, my daughter Marcy Potempa has been in the hospital for 3 weeks. She has been very ill and continues to need ongoing medical care. On October 8th, she was taken to the FHN Emergency Department where she was treated for extremely high blood pressure running around 220’s/140’s. After, no success with no medication she was forced to be admitted where she spent six days in the hospital before being transferred by ambulance to Swedish American in Rockford for further testing and access to more resources as well as more specialists. Within a couple days of her arrival and extensive testing she was diagnosed with Pheochromocytoma.

Pheochromocytomoa is a rare condition that involves a tumor on one of her adrenal glands and causes many symptoms that she has been experiencing for quite some time. She continues to be so short of breath, tachycardia, blurred vision in her right eye, tremors and so very weak. The only way to cure the condition is to unfortunately surgically remove the tumor. Marcy was finally released from the hospital after 19 long days and has appointments set up with her endocrinologist to follow up to move forward with the next step in the process.

Marcy is a single mom of two girls and has worked so hard to complete her nursing degree. She has recently started a new job as a Registered Nurse and unfortunately this diagnosis couldn’t have come at a worse time. With being a new employee she only had a few days of paid time off accrued and after 19 days in the hospital as well as time off for upcoming appointments, surgery and recovery will also take a toll on her on financially. Unfortunately, she will be forced to go back to work on Monday, Marcy is a very humble and private person and would never want to ask for help from anyone.
