Wheelchair for Chloe

Our beautiful Chloe has been diagnosed with a rare disease known as Perthes. This disease has affected her leg. It started as a limp. Took her to our local GP who thought it might have been muscular. We where sent for an X-ray, the radiologist called her doctor and requested we go for an MRI which confirmed she had early stages of Perthes disease. We had never heard of it. We then awaited while her doctor sent a couple of referrals to some orthopaedic surgeons. In the mean time Chloe suffered pain after returning back to school, we went to our local hospital where we where pretty much shown the door instinct cut in and we went and bought her some crutches to help with pain and to take some pressure off while we await for her appointment. We then got an appointment with The Royal Children’s hospital Melbourne on Monday the 5th March, we didn’t know much about the disease only what we could read online. Chloe was asked by the surgeon how she uses her crutches she showed him, he jumped in and said no you can not use them as an aid to help you to walk like walking sticks. We were given the news she is not allowed  to weight bare, with a recovery period of 3 years and will need to be in a wheelchair. The disease will run it’s course, the ball joint in Chloe’s right leg will lose its blood supply and the bone dies and grows back. To help aid this coming back to normal shape and function and not collapse she will need to not put weight on her leg. We will be back to the hospital in 6 weeks for more X-rays and monitoring. We have hired a wheelchair for the next six’s weeks but feel it will be more financial if we can buy one. Hate to ask but am hoping all our friends, friends of friends and family might be able to help us with some funding in helping us get our little girl her own chair we can also personalise.
