Ryan's Recovery

Donation protected

On September 30, 2018, my son Will and his friend Ryan Anderson were hiking in Erving, MA, in the Farley Ledge area.   This is a popular area with cliff climbers, and the boys hiked on a marked trail that ran near the top of the cliffs.   Ryan was positioning himself to get a scenic view and fell from a height of nearly 100 feet.

Miraculously, Ryan survived the fall and was transported from the forest by medical personnel and then flown by helicopter to Baystate Medical Center in Springfield.  He sustained a concussion, a fractured pelvis, and a broken femur which required surgery.  After spending a week at Baystate,   much of it in ICU, Ryan was transferred to Shriners Hospital for Children, where he is beginning a lengthy rehabilitation process.  He will begin to be able to put weight on his broken leg soon as he goes through physical therapy.

Ryan did not have health insurance, and his mom has missed a considerable number of days at work while being at Ryan's side in the hospital.  Given the extent of Ryan's injuries and the length of the hospitalization, the medical bills are expected to be quite costly.  We are setting a goal of $50,000, but quite honestly the expenses could run much higher than this.   In the event the goal is met, please consider extending past this goal to help the family with what is likely to be continued costs in relation to the accident.   If there are any funds leftover they will be donated back to Shriners Hospital for Children.

Ryan's family wanted us to share a little about the things this wonderful young man loves to do.  He participated in a number of tractor pulling groups with his family, he was working towards getting his black belt in Karate with his friend Sam, and enjoyed riding his bike around the neighborhood in Erving with Will.  Most of all, Ryan is a great friend!   We look forward to his full recovery and getting him back to doing these things he loves!

Help us show him all the love and support we can in this time of need.  Thank you in advance for your generous support of the Anderson Family!
