Help Siwe go research Financial Inclusion (PhD)

Donation protected
Hi everyone, my name is Sandisiwe Eletu Yengeni and I am an aspiring researcher in the area of inclusive finance in developing economies.

So, I turned 30 about 2 weeks ago. One of the greatest joys that I have been reflecting on is how I was able to try different things in my twenties – different jobs in different industries, figuring out what I was actually passionate about, starting a business, living in a different country, getting published, writing poetry, blogging, learning how to quit things that didn’t serve me, doing a master’s and other things. For me, twenties were for exploring, and explore I did. I do not take any of these things lightly, getting to do any of this is such a privilege for me. I was raised in a township by a single mother and we barely got by. Her efforts to turn me into a fearless, passionate human being who cares about the world and is led by conviction, are the reasons I was able to do any of these things. Being able to dream bigger, live larger and truer has been a privilege.

And in continuing with this theme of being true to the things I am passionate about, I dared to apply for a PhD in a field that scarcely has black people, let alone black women. During my master’s, my passion for digital finance and financial inclusion in developing economies was crystalized. I endeavoured to research how we could measure financial inclusion in Africa and compare the levels of financial inclusion in our various countries beyond merely owning an account. Furthermore, I wanted to understand whether financial technology, the shiny innovation of the day, actually increased financial inclusion levels. This work, focused on developing economies, focused on Africa, is important and necessary. And it’s interesting and worth researching! It’s work I want to commit my talents and efforts to – for my own curiosity, and for our people.

Anyway, this sob story about my twenties is a ploy to ask you all for money. I did the hard work – wrote a proposal, applied for PhD at a school with academics I respect and I got in. I don’t have funding though, and I don’t have money, so I need you to help me pursue this dream anyway in January 2022. I have applied for some scholarships and await their outcome. Should I get the funding I need, I will ensure that your money is returned to you (because I am not trying to scam you ). Your assistance, any assistance really, is highly appreciated!
