My name is Daniel Geddes. I'm a 5th year senior walk-on wide receiver at The University of Alabama. This isn't about me though. The money isn't for me, nor is it benefitting me in any way. I had $8 in my wallet this morning (7/8/14) and decided I would go to Chickfila for breakfast after our team got done running. When I was leaving, I was driving through a local shopping center and saw a man sitting in the shade behind the big buildings with an old dusty, Tommy Hilfiger bag. Immediately, God put it on my heart to give the man the rest of what was in my wallet and the Powerade that was in my passenger's seat. I sat and talked with him for ten minutes until he told me he had to go to work at a restaurant just a few buildings down. However, in that ten minutes, I learned more about this man than I could have guessed. He recently lost his apartment due to falling behind on payments. He was injured at work, and was out for a few weeks. The bills added up but the paychecks just didn't. So, he was left to live out of his truck for a while. Well, yesterday morning (7/7/14), the alternator went out in his truck in Fosters, Alabama which is about 15 miles away from his job in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. So, he hitchhiked to work yesterday morning and he did it again this morning. His mode of transportation had become his home and now THAT isn't even dependable. He never asked for a thing other than my prayers. I've made it my mission to exceed his expectations, now. I'll pray for him everyday. However, we are called to be the hands and feet of God, not just the mouth that prays, and I hope we can do just that. This man needs an alternator and an apartment or house of some sort close to his job. The bare minimum is fine. Nothing luxurious. The bottom line is times are hard, the weather is hot (heat index today is over 100 again), and this is a man who redefines humility who simply needs to be...covered. If you can help in giving and encouraging this man, it would bless him and it would bless my heart also. My family still feels the sting of filing bankruptcy years ago, and we don't have much at all to this day, but we DO have a car, we DO have a roof over our heads, and we DO have peace. Those are the three things I would like to restore to Greg Wingham. If you've ever wanted to make a difference, now is the time!
