Maya's Spinal Surgery

Donation protected
Dearest family, friends and anyone else willing to listen..

I humbly am asking for your help. My beautiful 12 year old daughter has a severe case of adolescent scoliosis. On July 7th, 2014 we received the news that no parent wants to hear - she will need major surgery. Rods will need to be inserted to straighten her out. The upper curve in her spine is nearly 60 degrees and starting to affect her quality of life. Unfortunately, the brace she wears 23 hours a day is not helping hold her in place as it should have. Her tentative surgery date is December 2014. The surgery is anywhere from 8-12 hours and will require a 7-10 day stay in ICU once complete. Always an avid soccer player, when she was told about the surgery - her main concern was that she wouldn't be able to play soccer for a whole year after surgery. While I would do anything in my power to be in her shoes, her bravery about the situation breaks my heart. If missing out on soccer is her biggest fear, then I know she will breeze through this ordeal with the same smile she's worn when she was diagnosed and fitted for her back brace nearly a year ago to the day. Yes, some 12th and 13th birthday's, huh? Her birthday is July 19. She received her brace on 7/20/2013 and was told she'd need surgery to stop the curve from getting worse on 7/7/2014. The surgery itself (without room, ICU, anesthesiology, etc.) will cost upwards of $150,000. Anything you can do to help ease the burden is welcome. We are hoping that our insurance will cover a large portion of the bill. Raising Maya and her two sisters and one brother is an absolute blessing and we wouldn't change anything for the world. Financially though, we will be unable to keep up with the doctor/specialist/hospital bills while making sure everyone is taken care of, happy and healthy. This surgery, while necessary, is undoubtedly going to cause a setback. No donation is too small, and even if we don't come close to our goal - I know we will make it through and emerge stronger than ever. Anyone willing to pass Maya's story and link on is appreciated. Please, even if you can't help us at this time, keep us and more importantly - Maya - in your thoughts for an easy surgery and a speedy recovery. Remember, she has a pair of soccer cleats waiting for her to be able to run in them again!

All of our warmest thanks and love always,
