Help me save my house

The reason I am starting this fundraiser is to stop the bank from foreclosing on my childhood home. Due to various cases of theft, both through betrayal or ignorance, my family and I have been left in this devastating situation. The bank is demanding we raise $20,000 by April 20th, which is why we need your help.

My father immigrated to this country in 1972 and through his own determination started a chain of restaurants that many of you may still remember fondly. He purchased this house in 1990 and raised a dedicated family. We lived together and worked together, and in the walls are many fond memories.

In 2007, my father was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer. In between chemo treatments and general malaise, he was unable to keep up with running his businesses, and consequently financially suffered. After multiple mortgage refinances, the home was stabilized, but would never return to what it was.

In 2013 he lost his fight with cancer. This devastated our family, and due to it being the only life we knew, we split up his remaining two restaurants between myself (Cafe Beirut in Jamaica Plain) and my mother/sister (Sami’s at Longwood in the Longwood Medical Area.) my sister moved back in with my mom to share with business and mortgage expenses and I was down the road in Dedham starting my own family.

This turned out to be only the beginning of our devastation. At the conclusion of 2016, we found out that my sister had not made a single mortgage payment the entire year and had spent the entirety on herself. This was a substantial loss which forces my mother to declare bankruptcy as the only way out to keep her home. My beautiful wife, daughter, and I moved back in to assist with the new mortgage.

My my sister was not done, however. The following summer we learned that she had not made any of the mortgage deposits which we had given my mother, and had once again had pocketed for herself. This put even further pressure on us as she was intentionally submarine herself my mother’s business due to the fact that it had been moved into her name due to the bankruptcy. In turn, my mother had worked for nearly 15 months for free.

All through the fall and winter I attempted to double up mortgage payments to the best of my ability. In December I learned that an ex-employee had been skimming from my business in the excess of $10,000, and my ability to make these double payments was non-existent.

This gets us up to today. We recently learned that unless we can make up all the missed payments, penalties, and further deposit in excess of $20,000, they would foreclose on my childhood home. This has been devastating for us as it seems like every chance we had, we did the right thing, only to have greed take away something we hold dear.

This is why we are asking for help. Even if it’s just one dollar, everything and anything gets us closer as we scramble to come up with enough to not lose our home. Tell your friends and neighbors, shout it from the rooftops, because we need all the help we can get.
Thank you for taking the time to read this, and I’ll make sure to give you the biggest hug next time we meet
