Please Help Rose!...

FINAL UPDATE: With much sadness, I am giving a final update because our sweet Rose has passed away. She was a trooper until the end. Rose began a fast decline last night around 4:30AM. We brought her to the vet today and found out she had sepsis. Her poor body couldn’t take anymore. Her intestines began leaking into her abdomen and there was a lot of free-flowing fluid. She was wrapped in a warm air blanket and given a tranquilizer to keep her comfortable and pain free. We held her as she passed. We are grieving her loss, but we know that she was in pain and is now at peace. Our hearts are warmed by how many people came together to give Rose a chance. We thank you all for your generosity and kindness. Although Rose has crossed the rainbow bridge, she passed knowing she was loved. You gave her a chance at life, and we appreciate you.

ANOTHER UPDATE: We need lots of positive vibes for our Rose today. She is not doing well. She has had constant diarrhea and vomiting. She has a vet appointment today.

NEW UPDATES (but not the last update) in the Update section so that I could add photos!

SMALL UPDATE (more to come): Rose is doing good. We had a little scare when her blood pressure and blood sugar dropped the day after surgery but she’s doing much better. She’s stable and will possibly be coming home tonight. I will update more soon.

ANOTHER HUGE UPDATE! (but not the final one): Because of everyone's kindness, Rose had surgery this afternoon! The best of the best surgeons at NC State worked on her together as they knew operating on Rose would be difficult given her condition. They had to work fast and turned a surgery that usually takes 2-3 hours into 50 minutes. There were times when two surgeons at once were working on her abdomen. The best of the best surgeons at NC State took part and successfully removed her ilium. It was packed FULL of foodstuff, feces, and trash like plastic! I'm guessing she was eating whatever she could after being abandoned. Poor girl! Dr. Schlaeppy was shocked at how large her ilium had expanded, around 5 inches! And nothing was getting through. They sutured and stapled together the healthy parts of her intestines, so although she is missing a significant portion, hopefully, things will flow freely. We are not in the clear, however, as she now has a road to recovery. Dr. Schlaeppy said once we get past the week mark, she will feel very good about it. So please send good vibes to our trooper Rose! And much gratitude to Dr. Traverson (head surgeon), Dr. Schlaeppy, and Dr. Anderson for being rock stars and taking great care of Rose. Also, we are grateful for all of you who have donated to keep Rose alive. We will continue to update everyone as Rose recovers. We look forward to posting a picture of a healthy, chunky Rose!

I’m Rose. And I have a HUGE UPDATE!!: They figured out what my problem is, which is a really big deal cause everyone has been stumped for a while. It turns out I have an amoeba living inside me called Entamoeba. It's a parasite kind of like Giardia but this one is typically only found in third world countries like India! How did I end up with this??? It causes ulcerative lesions in the colon. They also did an ultrasound and noticed that there was one loop in my intestines that was extremely enlarged. They thought that was strange and were interested so they decided to cover the cost of a CT scan themselves! It turns out that my illium (part of my intestine) is so dialted that it is full of firm, impacted feces. They were wondering, "hmm, is there some obstruction?" so they did some more research. Well, they found out that the amoeba that I have can cause constriction of the illium in humans and unfortunately that is what has happened to me. The only option I have to cure me is to have surgery to cut out that part of my intestines so that everything can flow freely down there. Man, that would be such a relief! The bad news is is that the procedure is going to cost another $8,000! I know that is a lot and you guys have already been so generous, but if you are able it would be a Christmas miracle to feel good. Thanks to everyone for your kind donations to get me this far!

My foster mommy says I’m such a sweetheart. She doesn’t know much about my life before someone dumped me but whatever it was like, I deserved better. My journey with her started when a nice man found me wandering on the streets. I didn’t look sick then but I was. My foster mom noticed I was getting thinner and thinner even though I was eating. I have diarrhea all the time so that doesn’t help. I’m such a good girl that I try to hold my potty even when it gets bad. Sometimes it's impossible but they don't get mad at me. My foster family has spent lots of money trying to figure out what’s wrong, but sadly the doctor is at a loss (and I’ve seen 3 of them!) My next step is to be seen at NC State if we can raise the funds. It’s going to cost around $5,000! My foster mommy says I’m worth it but she needs help. I promise to keep everyone updated with my journey. Please donate to my care so I have a chance at life. Right now I’m pretty weak. Sometimes I fall and it makes my foster mommy so sad. I’m a trooper though and I tell her it’s ok and I get up and keep going. I’d love to keep going forever but it’s getting tough! Thanks for any help you can give!
