As most of you know from our Facebook page, Craft Surrogate Search, we have been searching for a surrogate to help us grow our family since we lost our son, Parker. Aubrey is unable to carry any more children due to an auto-immune disorder that attacks fetal blood. After we lost Parker our doctors told us that getting pregnant again would be fatal - to both the baby and Aubrey. And so, we have been searching for a "compassionate carrier" (someone to carry our child for no fee) since. We have had many wonderful women offer to carry for us but for one reason or another all the pieces didnt fit together.
Well, we have found our missing piece! We have an amazing friend who has offered to carry a baby for us and even more importantly - she has passed all her medical screenings! We are so very lucky that she has not only offered to carry for us, but also to carry for no fee - a huge gift to us. The standard fee for a gestational carrier, or surrogate, is between $20,000 and $30,000.
We are moving on to the legal and medical processes of surrogacy - farther than we have been with any other gestational carrier! We have taken this process slow and steady but are finding that we are going to require much more financial assistance than we thought. A roadblock we expected, but didn't know the full impact of until now. We are asking for help for the cost of the lawyer (approximately $4000) and for an insurance policy for our carrier (also approximately $4000). We understand that these amounts are daunting (they are for us too!) but please know that any amount will further our journey to grow our family. We are so blessed with friends and family who love us and we know that likes and shares will get us that much closer.
