Preserving History

This old girl needs my help…and I need yours!

I bought this old beauty to restore it to its lovely older self, but the Town is bullying me into ripping it down!  HELP!  Time is running out.

This was a hotel in a past life, with people coming in from around the country, enjoying the Catskill Region.  I have all sorts of records from the 1930’s when it was in it’s heyday, people basking in the sun, enjoying country air, peering over the mighty Hudson River.

In later years, an addition was put on the front and it was a restaurant and bar.  This was in the 1940’s.  People could gather around, play pool and dance.

The owners died, it was vacant, then it was overtaken and abused for years.  Things were neglected, no maintenance was done, and many parts of the old girl needed to be removed.

Because it has been neglected for decades, a mortgage cannot be acquired for the rehabilitation it needs.  I am getting pressure to tear it down and delete this gem of history.  It hurts my heart to think that it won’t be around anymore.

If you know construction, you know that a straight roofline, a dry basement, flat hardwood floors and no creaks in the stairwell mean a lot.  This house is still solid.  I have tried to sell it but haven’t found a brave buyer with foresight.  So, I am again looking to make it all better.

It is five acres of rolling, wooded hills near the Hudson River, nestled in the Catskill Region, with quaint towns and friendly folks.

Please help me begin this work so that this doesn’t need to be erased.  I am looking for any donation amount.  I would also be willing to find a buyer who is as in love with preserving  history as I am.
