for my year in South Asia

Donation protected
Three years ago I had a once in a lifetime opportunity to study in South East Asia. During my time there I was able to assist an organization that helps provide empowerment and clinical accessibility to female sex workers. My time in South East Asia and the work that I was able to accomplish gave me a whole new perspective on my future and what I want to spend my life doing. Since then I have been working in the field of homelessness and domestic violence, however my heart never left South East Asia. After a year of wrestling with possibilities of returning to the region, I am thrilled to say I will be moving back in January of 2015 with International Justice Mission.

International Justice Mission (IJM) works to protect the rights of the poor and oppressed in 10 developing countries. Their core mission is to rescue victims from violent extortion, bring offenders to justice, and restore survivors through aftercare, with the hope of strengthening the judicial system. This holistic system has rescued and restored the lives of more than 3,400 victims of oppression (for more information, visit www.ijm.org). IJM’s model is used to empower locals in the area I will be serving; only nationals are hired on as employees, thus strengthening a model of sustainability.

As a Community Mobilization Intern, I will be spreading IJM’s model and views of justice to surrounding churches, local authorities, and interested groups and organizations in the area of my assignment. The purpose of my internship is to support the South Asia team in combating sex trafficking through building and maintaining relationships with others who can be a part of the fight for justice. In addition, I will be supporting relationships between the church and community on how to rehabilitate and reintegrate survivors of sex trafficking.

There are several ways that I could greatly use your support. As you can imagine, an internship like this requires financial support, especially since my position is unpaid. Living and working in South Asia for 12 months is estimated to cost $20,000. This amount covers cost of international airfare, health insurance, housing, food, visa fees, local transportation, and immunizations. If you find yourself wanting to donate any amount, you can do so on this page. In addition, you can donate through the IJM website where you will receive a tax write off, https://secure3.convio.net/ijm/site/Donation2?4020.donation=form1&df_id=4020 , “Support an Internship or Fellowship.”

Second, and most importantly, I could use your support in prayer and words of encouragement as I embark on this year long adventure. Please keep in mind that the women we will be supporting could use your prayers, as well as the team I will be working alongside.

May your support be through prayer, communication with me, or financially I can’t thank you enough.

“He saves the needy from the sword in their mouth; he saves them from the clutches of the powerful. So the poor have hope, and injustice shuts its mouth.”
