Let's Help Jasper Completely Recover

Donation protected
UPDATES (28 November 2020)

Jasper is continuously recuperating at home. He is still having dizziness complaints which are normal because of the changes in his physical activities. He is starting to return to his normal sleeping patterns, although he finds it challenging at times. His meals are strictly monitored, courtesy of our brother, Joseph, who is at home with him, taking excellent care of him.

Later today at 3:30, he is scheduled to have his 8th hemodialysis. As I mentioned in the past posts, he will now have his maintenance hemodialysis procedures three times a week.

We humbly ask all of you to help us to continuously spread this GoFundMe link so we can reach our goal amount to aid with Jasper's treatment and hospitalization bills. No donation is small if it comes from the heart.

Thank you very much.

UPDATES (27 November 2020, 6 pm Manila Time)

The Lord continues to strengthen Jasper since my last update two days ago. He is constantly showing signs of improvement and he is definitely feeling so much better now. He complains of minor dizziness, which is normal according to his doctors, because of the lack of physical activities. Other than that, he is incredibly positive and patiently waiting for his full recovery.

I mentioned in my last update that he was transferred from the ICU to a regular room on 25 Nov 2020, Wednesday morning. Further observations and tests were done to monitor his health condition. Yesterday, 26 Nov 2020, we got information from his most recent x-ray. His pulmonologist and infectious disease doctor informed us that his lungs are already clear. The result of his 2D Echo procedure was explained yesterday by his cardiologist and the term “thickening of its walls”, not enlargement, was used to explain the condition of his heart. His nephrologist, however, mentioned that the “size” of his kidneys are already small. Jasper now needs to have maintenance hemodialysis for his system to function well. It was also mentioned that he can be a candidate for a renal/kidney transplant to replace hemodialysis. We will hear more from his nephrologist as the days go by to know the best option for Jasper as he continues treatment.

Jasper was rushed to the hospital on 15 Nov 2020. Today, 27 Nov 2020, is his 12th day in the hospital and the heavens have decided that it is enough. Today at 5 pm, JASPER WAS DISCHARGED FROM THE HOSPITAL and is now resting in the comfort of his home. He has shown strength, bravery, positivity, and great faith in the Lord amid this adversity. One of the sources of his strength is the support that all of you have shown. The family is so grateful for all the prayers that you continuously offer, moral support, and financial aid. We will never get tired of thanking all of you for the unselfish efforts that you have displayed. THANK YOU VERY MUCH! As we always say, our family will forever be indebted to your kindness. We will always ask for blessings for all of you in our prayers.

Jasper will continue to recuperate at home and will continue his hemodialysis procedures three times a week.

This has been a very difficult time for our family which started with our mother’s unexpected passing two weeks ago. But because of the unwavering support of our relatives, friends, and strangers, we were supplied with sufficient strength to fight this battle. Our family’s main armor from all the doubts and fears are the merciful and loving hands of God. Now, our life’s testimony is even more beautiful with the Lord as the main source of its beauty.

We will continue to give you updates on Jasper’s health condition. We will also continue with our fundraising project to help with Jasper’s hospitalization bill that amounted to a little more than a million Philippine Pesos. We will continue to re-post this GoFundMe link and I hope you never get tired of helping our family by re-posting it to your Facebook walls/Twitter/WhatsApp/Text Message/Email, with a personal message why you are reposting it, so we can reach more people and touch more generous hearts. We have not reached our goal amount yet, but we have faith in the Lord that He will supply our needs in the best way possible, in His perfect time. Please continue praying with us for this fundraising project to be a success.

In Matthew 25:40 it reads: And the king will say to them in reply, ‘Amen, I say to you, whatever you did for one of these least brothers of mine, you did for me.’ You all have unselfishly shown your love, kindness, and generosity to our family, specifically to your brother Jasper. We continue praising and thanking the Almighty for His steadfast love. And to all of you, WE THANK YOU VERY MUCH!

UPDATES (25 November 2020)

The Lord is continuously showing His love and generosity to His beloved children. If you remember, Jasper was extubated on Tuesday evening, 23 Nov 2020. Sometime in the afternoon yesterday, his feeding tube (NGT) was removed and he started having solid, soft-diet food from dinner last night. He stayed in the ICU until this morning. At around 8 am today, he was transferred to a regular private room where he will be observed further and continue to recuperate. Jasper is scheduled for his 7th hemodialysis procedure today at 3 pm. Jasper is feeling so much better compared to how it was when he was rushed to the hospital on 11 Nov 2020. Today marks his 10th day in the hospital and we have witnessed how God performed his wonders to Jasper. Let us continue thanking and praying to God for making Jasper an instrument for us to witness God’s healing power; for continuously hearing our prayers for Jasper’s fast recovery; for touching the hearts of many people around the world who selflessly expressed support through prayers and financial aid for Jasper’s treatment to continue; and for making this situation for Jasper’s family, relatives, and friends bearable.

As the days pass, his hospitalization bill will inevitably rise. Two days ago, the hospitalization bill totaled to 920,000 Philippine Pesos and it is expected today (25 Nov 2020) to be around 1.1 Million Pesos. Our family will be eternally grateful to all of you who donated for Jasper’s treatment. Your help will go a long way. However, we still need a lot of caring and helping hands for Jasper’s treatment to be not interrupted. PLEASE, help us pray to God to provide us with what we need for this endeavor, help us to pray so Jasper’s story can reach and touch more hearts, and help us to pray for Jasper to be discharged from the hospital soon so he can continue recuperating at the comfort of his home.

WITH GOD, NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE. We believed that, we still believe that, and we will continue to believe that. Please don’t stop joining us in prayer.

Thank you very much.

UPDATES (24 November 2020, 9am Manila Time)

From the use of a mechanical ventilator, it was replaced with a Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) on 22 November 2020 at 11 am. At around 1 pm yesterday, CPAP was unhooked and Jasper started breathing on his own. He was given a few hours for observation until his haemodialysis at 3:45 pm. His haemodialysis ended at 7:45 pm, and at 8 pm HE WAS EXTUBATED!!! Praise God for His goodness! He is still in the ICU for further observation. Because of your support and prayers, it is highly likely that he would be transferred to a regular room today. Let us continue praying for Jasper as he slowly reaches complete recovery. His smiles now mean A BIG THANKS to all of you. We humbly ask for you to continue sharing this link on your Facebook walls/Twitter/Text/WhatsApp (with your personal message) so we can reach our goal at the soonest possible time as Jasper braves the road to recovery. JASPER'S COMPLETE STORY

My name is Maria Moriel Melindo (maiden: Maria Moriel Magana Nilo) and I currently live in Casino, NSW, Australia. My older brother, Jasper Magana Nilo, 35 years old, who lives in the Philippines, was rushed to the hospital on the 15th of November 2020, Sunday, at around 1 in the morning (Manila time) due to difficulty in breathing. He was immediately intubated and was put on a ventilator. A series of tests were conducted to further investigate his condition. He is now being attended by a cardiologist (heart), a pulmonologist (lungs), a nephrologist (kidneys), a pain management specialist, an infectious disease specialist, and a surgeon.

A couple of days later, the initial test results came out. One of which was for COVID-19, and he, fortunately, tested negative. Our family was informed by one of his doctors that it was not just difficulty in breathing but already a heart attack when he was rushed to the hospital. The test results also revealed that his creatinine level (level of waste product that comes from the normal wear and tear on muscles of the body) was way off the charts (typical reference range: 60 to 110 micromoles per litre while Jasper’s initial test result showed 1,307 micromoles per litre). Because of this, he needs to undergo a series of emergency dialysis procedures to clean these wastes in his blood. His most current creatinine test result showed a value of 804 micromoles per litre. He has undergone four dialysis procedures as of this writing.

One of the causes why he is having difficulty in breathing is his congested lungs due to pneumonia. The dialysis procedures are helping in the draining of the fluid in his lungs. His oxygen saturation level (amount of oxygen that is in the bloodstream) when he was rushed to the hospital was only around 72% (normal: 95 to 100%) because of his congested lungs. But because of the dialysis procedures, the fluids in his lungs are slowly being drained and his oxygen saturation level is slowly increasing.
There is an enlargement of his heart and his blood pressure when he was rushed to the hospital skyrocketed to 220/110 mmHg (normal value around 120/80 mmHg). The lowest blood pressure reading that he has achieved as of this writing was at 150/95 mmHg, although still fluctuating.

He is in an intensive care unit (ICU) and still on a ventilator for treatment and observation. As of this writing (only going 5 days of hospitalization), his hospital bill is slowly reaching 750,000 Philippine Pesos (roughly 21,300 Australian Dollars), which is averaging 150,000 Philippine Pesos per day (roughly 4,300 Australian Dollars per day). Although Jasper is slowly showing signs of improvement, he is still not out of the woods and many more treatment procedures are expected.

Jasper is the second among four siblings, I being the fourth. On the 10th of November 2020, Tuesday morning, our mother passed away at the age of 66. It was a difficult time for our family because of my mother’s untimely and unexpected passing when this unfortunate thing happened to my brother. My siblings and I are hopeful for the help that anyone can extend to our family, whatever amount it may be. Any help, however little, will go a long way to aid in Jasper’s improvement. We are knocking at your generous hearts.

Thank you very much.
