Raising Funds for Kirt's Medical Bills

Donation protected
Kirt Hulsey -- 23 years old -- a loved son, grandson, nephew, cousin, and friend endured a tragic motorcycle accident on June 25th, 2014. His young life, once full of holding a fulltime motorcycle mechanic position at Harley Davidson in Lancaster, California, enjoying life in his 20’s with family and friends, and caring for his baby puppy, “Doja,” took a devastating turn when his fate was met with tragedy on June 25th. An awful motorcycle crash led him to a dark place where no 23 year old should have to experience. He suffered critical injuries to his brain, and multiple fractures in his skull, face, nose, jaw and spine. His trauma was so severe that he needed to be in a medically induced coma to help keep his brain at rest. Since day one in the hospital, his bedside has not been met with the absence of a family member, friend, or coworker. Kirt’s mother and immediate family have been greatly heart-warmed by the response and presence of love and support for Kirt. He is so loved and it brings much pain to see such a vibrant young man now in such a fragile state.

Though this brings his friends and family much grief, each and every one of us has seen such a lighted string of blessings that brought him protection that night. On the night of the accident, Kirt had friends there with him – a factor in itself that saved his life. Had he been alone, he may not have been found and saved in time. We have such heart and gratitude for the friends who were present to rescue Kirt. Another blessing -- cell phone reception would have been lost within minutes down the road of where the accident took place. His friends were able to call for help immediately and paramedics arrived within minutes. Helmet’s save lives, we know, and in Kirt’s case this was indeed a huge blessing and saving grace, as he had just recently upgraded his helmet from a $60 brand to a $500 brand. In the midst of such a veil of darkness covering us, we are beginning to see these blessings, see progress, and feel that dark veil lifting. As the veil continues to lift, we can clearly see both light and faith. We feel Kirt will survive this tragedy and walk away just as strong as he was before June 25th.

Kirt’s mother, Janet Stafford, is already immensely grateful for the surrounding of love, support and prayers for Kirt. This alone is bringing both Kirt and family to a place of healing and progress. Though we are so blessed and have so much gratitude for the support already given, Kirt’s medical expenses are not fully covered, leaving him with the responsibility of covering a large portion of his medical bills out of pocket, which is particularly challenging due to his inability to resume work. Due to his extensive need for long term care including brain, skull, facial, jaw, and tracheostomy surgeries in addition to a multitude of other medical procedures, his medical bills will be overwhelmingly high. We have no expectations or place no demand for donations, rather, we are simply grateful if anyone feels they can provide any donation in support of Kirt. Our family remains overwhelmingly heart-warmed and full of gratitude for the outpouring of love and support. Many thanks to everyone, near or far, for being an integral part of Kirt’s recovery through your presence and prayers – we believe in the power of each. Kirt will walk again!

With gratitude,

Kirt's family
