At Our Angels Women and Children Shelter, we believe with the right tools, anyone can prosper. That’s why we are thrilled to be supporting displaced/at-risk mothers and their children who require physical and mental attention before reintegrating into society.
Too often in our community, single mothers and their children are displaced as a result of a multitude of factors and do not have a safe place to raise their children and provide for themselves. To no fault of their own, the children are adversely affected and have a higher chance of falling into a cycle of poverty. Unfortunately, Philadelphia has a high propensity of these instances and is in need of more shelters that can facilitate to the unique needs of single mothers and their children. At Our Angels Women and Children Shelter our goal is to empower these displaced single mothers and their children. We will offer protective shelter, psychological counseling, HIV testing, and preventative health screenings.
As a single parent who has extensive experience volunteering with the homeless and working with local at-risk youth, I understand how positive care and focused guidance can change the lives of individuals. I draw on my professional career as a registered nurse and mental health worker, as well as my BA degree in criminal justice to create a safe and nurturing environment that encourages struggling community members to grow and succeed. Every day, I look for new ways to help single mothers reach their full potential as well as ways to further the revitalization and reconstruction of our communities.
