My name is Brooke and I'm Shirley Klim's neighbour.
I made this page when I found out about Shirley's struggle through a Facebook post where I saw that she was selling her household goods off in an attempt to cover the costs of her own funeral.
I couldn't beleive that someone down the street from me was facing immeasurable stress and illness and I had no idea that she was even in need!
I don't want to see her fight this fight alone so this page is my call to rally the support of our community.
Shirley is a 56 year old single grandmother raising her granddaughter and son here in Vernon, BC. 2 years ago she battled lung cancer and won, but has recently been informed that the cancer has since metastized to her brain.
Rasing a family on a fixed income while you battle brain cancer is no easy task and I would like to use this page to show this wonderful lady what the support of her community can do for her spirits.
What I've done to help facilitate this is to set this GoFundMe account up as well as a trust account in Shirley's name at VantageOne Credit Union.
Note that ANY branch of VantageOne will take donations and post them in their entirety to her account, without taking a portion in fees as GoFundMe does.
Alternatively, in lieu of (or in addition to a cash donation), I've set up a MealTrain account: http://www.mealtrain.com/?id=mk9c795uilvt where you can donate food and/or meals to Shirley and her family while she's undergoing her radiation treatment. MealTrain is an online calendar where you can see each day of the week and if someone has volunteered to cover a meal or if there's an opening for you to drop off your famous lasagna/casserole/peach cobbler off.
As Shirley is having difficulty standing for even short periods of time, meal prep is quite a challenge for her and food/meal donations are a very welcome gesture.
Gift certificates for Home for Dinner are great as well, as are gift cards for pizza companies that deliver.
