Dear Friends,
It is with heavy hearts that we feel the need to write to all of you. As you know, Everett Doninger has been battling Cystic Fibrosis for his entire life. In the last few months, he has been hospitalized with increasing frequency and is currently waiting to hear that he has been accepted for a lung transplant. As his mother, Lauren has valiantly battled this disease with him. She has spent the entirety of her son’s life working with the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation to raise funds to find a cure. The time has come when Everett requires increased medical attention. This is a tremendous drain on their collective resources; mental, physical and financial. As we all hold them in our hearts and prayers and are there to support them emotionally and physically, it would be extremely beneficial if we could support them financially as well.
For many years we have supported Everett through our participation in annual CF events that fund research. We have now decided to form the Everett Doninger Fund in the hopes of relieving some of the family's financial burdens. Those of you who know Lauren well understand that she would hesitate to accept such charity. Lauren would be the first to organize and implement help for a friend in need. We feel that this is an opportunity to help our dear friend and her son. The costs associated with organ transplant are astronomical. While insurance will hopefully cover the majority of medical expenses, there will be many additional expenditures, including deductibles, dietary requirements, transportation, and other ancillaries.
A more pressing immediate need is to make Lauren’s home completely accessible for Everett once he is discharged from the hospital. Lauren’s Hamden home will require the installation of a bathroom to provide him with the care he needs. Everett’s having to give up his apartment and move to Lauren's home has been a difficult realization for him. Providing him with a private bathroom will allow him to maintain his independence, which is crucial to his physical and emotional well-being.
At this time, we would gratefully welcome any and all financial contributions. It is our hope that we will be able to support this family through your generosity.
