Shawn and Jackie Flickinger along with their children 5 year old Liam and 2 year old twins Mary Kate and Grady are from Savanna, IL. On May 13, 2014 they lost their house and all their belongings in a fire. Thankfully they all made it out safe and through the generosity of family and loved ones and the outpouring of a small community, they had just started to rebuild their lives.
Sadly on Wednesday July 2nd, Shawn was injured in a railroad accident and suffered the loss of his right leg and part of his right arm.
The expenses of these injuries will be extensive. Everday expenses for gas, food, lodging, etc... will be difficult to keep up with as Shawn is currently in a hospital in Rockford, IL and Jackie will be driving from Savanna to visit him. It is expected that the recovery period will take quite some time for Shawn.

An Update on the Flickinger 5: 11 surgeries later, Shawn is now facing a move to a Chicago facility where he hopes to begin the next chapter in his road to recovery. Shawn will hopefully be moving soon to this Chicago facility to start rehabilitation. Because this move will now incur additional costs for them, we are changing our desired goal and are attempting to meet their needs that they may have in the coming months ahead.
The overwhelming generous donations, prayers, visits to the hospital and support have been SO greatly appreciated by Jackie and Shawn and their family and friends. Your continued support of them whether through donations or thoughts and prayers are still appreciated. An update will be posted at a later time once the facility that Shawn will be transferred to has been confirmed so that you can send cards or even stop by for a visit.
