Medical Bills for Brian and Sara

Brian and Sara underwent an terrible motorcycle accident on Sunday, June 29th near their home in Lindstrom, MN.  Brian was medevac'd to a Trauma 1 medical center in the Twin Cities and Sara followed in an ambulance.

During the collision, Brian sustained a large laceration and fragmentation on his forehead. The neurosurgeons were able to stop the brain bleed and mend the opening with a metal plate. He was then released to the Surgical Intensive Care Unit at the Trauma Center, which is where he is today. In addition to the brain trauma, Brian also suffered a partially collapsed lung, 7 rib fractures and a shattered hip. Yesterday, July 1st, Brian underwent his second surgery; this time on his right hip. The surgery was a success and Brian added 3 more plates and 9 more screws to his collection of metal in his body. Brian is recovering, however the general anesthesia took its toll on Brian and he was unable to get the air tube out that night. This was a very difficult time for him as they had him in restraints and it was very uncomfortable. This morning, Brian passed his breathing test with flying colors and was able to get the breathing tube removed. Brian continues to be highly medicated and nods in and out most of the day, but he was able to sit up in a chair today and eat some fresh fruit and soup. This was the first food that he has had since the applesauce that he received on Monday evening. When Brian is awake, he is strong and funny as he is normally, however those awake periods do not last long as he continues to get his rest and heal. Brian’s done some limited Occupational and Physical Therapy in which he did very well.

Sara also suffered brain trauma and bleed, however no laceration. She was admitted to the Surgical and Trauma Center where she is today. Her injuries list is also quite extensive and indeed as painful. She suffered 4 fractured ribs, a fractured lower back and fractured pelvis. X-rays showed that Sara’s fractures were within the tolerance for healing so she did not have a need for any surgeries to date; good news  Sara suffered some road rash on her back and shoulder as well as a laceration on the inside of her lip that required stitches. Sara can get from the bed to the bathroom with a walker. She has also been able to take multiple trips across the hospital to visit Brian in the ICU via wheel chair! There have been some ups and downs, but for the most part Sara has done very well with her Occupational and Physical Therapy sessions thus far.

They have a long road ahead of them with recooperation and therapy, neither of them will be able to work for quite some time.  We are requesting donations to help assist them pay for the ongoing daily finances as well as try and keep up with the medical bills as they will be coming sooner than later.  Anything that you can do to assist Brian, Sara and three children get through this tough time will be greatly appreciated!
