B. Nirojini Education Fund

From 3rd of September to 15th of October I have had the pleasure of volunteering for the The Church of American Ceylon Mission (CACM) preschool & afterschool in Sri Lanka and teaching students ESL . CACM already do work with youth in community programms such as children´s home, after school programms and also college/ university scholarships.
During the six weeks of my stay, I had different moments, impressions and experience that shaped my perspective in many ways. Not only teaching ESL was important, but also to have motivational conversation with staff members and the students. They felt accepted and understood. My aim was to encourage their thinking patterns and to help them focus on the positive aspects in life. Especially girls and young woman, like Nirojini, to encourage them to continue their studies and become a role model for their community .
The Church of American Ceylon Mission started this year a residental programm for those youth who need a transnational phase between school and college or work. Youth struggling due to various challenges in their life are also given a safe space and time to settle, get the support they need and then go on to studies or vocational training and work.
Nirojini is a 23 year old young woman from Batticaloa. She comes from a poor family and has a brother and two sisters all of whom are younger than her. Her mother works as a cook and is the provider for the family. Her father is an absentee father who has battled alcohol addiction for a long time. In spite of her challenges she did reasonably well in her Advanced Level studies and passed in the Sciences. She is determined to do better in the next attempt in August 2019 and is also keen to study English in Jaffna till then. Her ambition is to do an undergraduate degree in the sciences and work in medical research laboratories.
Your donation will provide:
- English course fees for one year: Jan -Dec 2019
- Montly Expenses: Food, Rent
- Receiving tutoring support to prepare for AL Exam and univiversity entrance exams
- Purchase learning materials: books etc. - Travel
By supporting this fund, Nirojini will be provided with mentoring, prepatory studies in Englisch and her AL-Exam, lots of soft skills/life skills and opportunities to play a role in youth programs herself. You all will have a great impact on Nirojini´s journey and allow her to achieve her goals and have a better life as before. Donors like us provide the financial and moral support needed to continue the education.
