Quog Inc / Eric Salzman's "Big Jim"

Tax deductible
Eric Salzman’s Quog Music Theater needs your support. Please help us to further Quog, Inc's continuing mission to perform the music theater works and sustain the legacy of innovative, avant garde composer Eric Salzman, whose long and unique career was recently chronicled by the NY Times after he passed away suddenly in November 2017.

The first of his works to be presented through Quog Inc. will be the world stage premiere of the new orchestrated version of Big Jim and the Small Time Investors, a co production of Gramercy Opera and Cutting Edge Concerts, on April 9 at The Thalia/Symphony Space at 7:30PM and we hope you can join us in contributing to the production of this work and be part of our supporters and audience.

Here is what Eric had to say in the NY Times in 1972:

"The potential of new music theater forms can only be fully explored and realized in ensemble fashion... It was with these considerations in mind that I founded Quog in 1970... In the broadest sense, music theater deals with the relationships between musical and nonmusical experience. Music, sound, language, expressive gesture, movement, image, idea, thinking, feeling, all extended over the broadest range of possibility, are the raw materials; change and culture shock, and human values in a technological mass culture, are the subjects of new forms."

His cutting edge opera, Big Jim and the Small-Time Investors, with a libretto by Ned Jackson, gets to the very heart of these ideas. We’re taking the idea of ensemble as far as we can, bringing together three companies for this one-of-a-kind theater experience.

Quog Inc, wants the production to have all of the resources that a staged production deserves (costumes, lighting, innovative set, props, etc). Quog Inc - an outgrowth of Quog Music Theater which has been a producer of music theater for over 30 years - believes that artists work hard and deserve to be fairly compensated for their work. With that in mind, we are raising money to underwrite the quality of the upcoming production and the artist fees.

With every dollar we raise, the time and resources that each artist can invest in this project will go up! This means more focus from each artist, more rehearsals, more production elements to give this amazing work of art the production it deserves.

Quog Inc will give every cent raised back to the artists and creative team who are giving their all to their art, to make Big Jim & the Small-Time Investors a riveting theatrical experience that we hope you will all be a part of.

Please help us hear, honor and remember this remarkable and influential man.
