A relatively new team, San Diego State University's Aztec Baja team has been making a name for itself in the racing world.
Mini Baja SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers) is an international collegiate competition that challenges students to design, build, and race a 10hp offroad buggy each year. We compete in three US competitions during the spring semester that include a sales presentation, a design presentation, an acceleration trial, an obstacle trial, and a 4 hour endurance race. Competing against 100+ teams both national and international.
Aztec Baja's achievements since our last competitions in 2017 are as follows: we won 2nd in acceleration in California for the past two years, 4th in the endurance race in Kansas with the fastest lap time, 2nd in rock crawl in Illinois and first time winning 1st place in the endurance race in Illinois, placing us 8th overall, another first being top ten overall. We hope to do even better this year!
Through Mini Baja SAE, our engineers take the theoretical knowledge they gain in their classes and apply it to the real world, designing and machining most of the car from scratch in SDSU's machine shop. Through Mini Baja, many students gain the skills and connections they need to succeed in life after college.
As a student organization, Aztec Baja relies entirely on donations, sponsorships, and school grants to finance our build. We will be using the donations from this gofundme to cover travel expenses for our 3 competitions in Maryland, Kansas and Oregon. We are extremely grateful for any contributions.
