It is my great hope to raise a small amount of funds to return to Germany. My goal is to travel to Wuppertal, where I have job leads, very good business connections with its proximity to Düsseldorf, and friends there who support me. I am fluent in the German language and have an unlimited work visa. I don't require a lot of money--$2,000 would be enough for me to secure a plane ticket with the rest to tide me over. I am eager to work hard and give back to the world.

Regrettaby, I have not thrived in the United States since the dawn of the recent and ongoing recession. I returned to the States in 2005 in hopes of pursuing a graduate degree at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in Germanic studies for one semester. That summer I earned a certificate to teach English as a foreign language and spent a year in Shanghai at a language school teaching English to various Chinese groups.

Upon my return the country was in the midst of a terrible economic downturn and I was soon one of its living casualties. I could not find work as employers told me I was overqualified. My adversity spiraled, as I wound up briefly homeless, sleeping in a shelter or out on the streets. Even finding menial work on a consistent basis has proved somewhat sporadic. I am however calmly and consistently picking myself off the ground, and am no longer, at least for a little while yet*, *homeless. But I could use a helping hand and perhaps you might aid me in my endeavor to return there*. *

Upon visiting Germany for the first time in 1982 as part of an international student exchange program with the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, I felt like I was transported to a new world. Perhaps it was my German ancestry, which dates to the early 1500's, but the country simply drew me. The best years of my life have been spent there, both as a student and a professional. I built a successful career as an advertising/media practitioner there. In my 20 year career, 16 have been spent living and working in Germanic speaking region. As a result, I am bilingual, fluent in the written and spoken vernacular.

But first I require a bit of facilitation. I'm not asking for much, just some assistance in getting across that big pond to begin anew.

In advance of your reply, I would like to express my gratitude.

Dankeschön fürs Zuhören!

Gregory Walter
