Desiree's Fight Against AML Cancer

Hello, my name is Desiree Brown, I am 19 years old. I was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia, a blood cancer, on February 13, 2015. Before I was diagnosed I was a student at Broward College majoring in Accounting to further pursue my dreams of becoming a business accountant. After finding out about my condition I had to withdraw from school, thus putting a hold on my dreams. I have been in and out of the hospital since then. I'm currently on my 5th hospital visit. Each hospital stay is a month, with the bill ranging between $1,000 to $4,000 per hospital visit after insurance. I am currently receiving treatment at the Sylvester Cancer Center of University of Miami to get ready for my Stem Cell Transplant. My donor is my older sister Annie. The Stem Cell Transplant is supposed to cure me of my cancer. It's becoming difficult to go forward with the transplant because my leukemia keeps relapsing. I'm on my 4th relapse. I just finished a 10 day chemotherapy and my doctors are trying to get a new chemotherapy that's averaging at about $15,000. My insurance won't cover it because it's seen as experimental being that it's not for my type of cancer. But studies have been done where this chemotherapy paired with the one I already received has placed the leukemia in remission. That is my goal right now, to be in remission or very close to it. If the disease is active the transplant won't take. At this time, the treatment above didn't put my leukemia in remission like we had hoped. So I just started another chemotherapy last Wednesday for 6 days. Hopefully this one works! With that being said this account was made to help defer some of the cost that insurance won't pay for. At this point in my life I am just trusting in God to heal me of this sickness in effort to allow me to return to school, my life, and to continue chasing my dreams.
