Shame-free Lunches for Students

Donation protected
I am a teacher. I recently learned that some of my students aren't eating lunch because they have school-lunch debt. I am deeply concerned that these kids have to worry about incurring greater debt to their family's balance in order to eat food during the school days that are already so stressful. Last week I shopped to stock up on protein bars, jerky, concentrated fruit snacks,  and fresh fruit to provide to those students whom I know need shame-free lunches and now I am looking for help to continue this trend for the next seven weeks until the end of the school year. If you have anything to share please do, or at least please share this post to spread the word. I spent about $100 for this last week and I have had a couple of donations already, so I am thinking that $500 is a good goal for the last seven weeks of the year.  I am sure we could use more. All proceeds will be channeled to food for students at McGlone Academy.

I realize that there is much to understand about this unfortunate setup that makes kids feel shame and blame around this most basic necessity. I am researching this issue further to understand how it might be addressed in the long term, but for the short term I know how vital it is that these kids are eating so their brains have the chance to relax and focus. I wonder how much of the behavioral issues I encounter are due to being undernourished.

Thank you for your help,
