Hi,

I am Belkis, Yolanda's only child. Three days ago my mom was caught on a fire in her building, back home in Caracas, Venezuela.

She is very lucky to be alive for few reasons:

The fire spread out rapidly and blocked the only exit of the building
The firemen in the country are in precarious conditions (their salary is about $5 and they don't have the right equipment, uniforms or tools)
By working in Health and Safety she has created an amazing network of people that work in institutions that provide first aid, and one of her (fireman) collaborator and friend, not only guided her during three hours while waiting to be rescued while in the bathroom but he also mobilized as many units and people he could just to make sure my mom was kept alive

We are very grateful she is alive to tell the story; however, the trauma and the tragedy didn't end there. After losing her home, the remaining recoverable items in the flat were stolen afterwards while she was doing her health checks (that happens in countries where there are so many needs). That means she has lost literally everything.

This campaign is to help her get back on her feet with the basics, clothes, shoes, bed linen, toiletries, medicines and also to donate part of it to what I think is her savior (Carlos R)

Many of you ask how you can help, and this seems the most coordinated way to do so, considering how spread out we are in the world.

This you will help us immensely and immediately, as I can focus in organizing myself to start supporting her in the future ahead. I wish I could afford it all.

This will also help her to focus on her emotional and post traumatic healing, which is my biggest concern at the moment.

Thanks so much again, for your support throughout this; the last three days have been also a reminded that even thought life is fragile, we have so much love from friends, family, acquaintances and we both believe that there's still many good people in the world and we hope that the stolen items can serve a purpose for people that seems to be in worse conditions.

Yo soy Belkis, la unica hija de Yolanda. Hace tres días mi mamá quedo atrapada en un incendio en su edificio en Bello Monte, Caracas.

Ella tuvo mucha suerte por varias razones:

El incendio se propagó muy rapidamente y bloqueó la única escalera de acceso a los apartamentos
El sistema de bomberos y protección civil es muy precario en Venezuela (no tienen los equipos necesarios, su sueldo es de $5 y mi papá escuchó que no habian suficientes unidades por falta de gasolina)
Como mi mamá tiene muchos años trabajando en Seguridad y Salud Laboral, ha creado muy buenos vinculos con personal bombero y de protección civil. Entre ellos, Carlos R, quién se convirtió en su amigo, la guió por telefono mientras se refugiaba en el baño por aproximadamente tres horas mientras la rescataban. Él ademas movilizó a su red para que fueran a rescatar a mi mamá

Estamos muy agradecidos de que ella esta viva para contarlo; sin embargo, la tragedia no termino allí. Aparte de perder su casa, entraron a su apartamento y saquearon las cosas que eran recuperables mientras ella estaba haciendose los chequeos medicos. Lo que ahora la deja despojada de todo.

Esta campaña de donaciones es para que puedo empezar con lo básico, necesita ropa, zapatos, toallas, sabanas, medicinas y además queremos donar parte del dinero al señor Carlos R, a quién creo que es su salvador.

Muchos nos han preguntado como ayudar, y esta parece ser la forma mas coordinada, sabiendo además que estamos todos regados por el mundo.

Esto nos puede ayudar de forma inmensa e immediata, así yo podré organizarme para apoyarla en el futuro. Me gustaría poder asumir todos los costos, pero aún no estoy en condiciones.

Las donaciones pueden ayudar a mi mamá a concentrarse en su recuperación emocional y en sanar después del trauma, mi mayor preocupación en este momento.

Muchas gracias nuevamente por todo el apoyo que hemos recibido (como familia); los últimos tres días han sido un recordatorio de que si bien la vida es fragil, estamos rodeados de mucho amor de nuestra familia, amigos, conocidos y las dos creemos que el mundo sigue estando llena de gente buena; esperamos que esas cosas que fueron robadas puedan ayudar a esa gente que percibimos estan en una situación peor.
