Hi, I’m Mariale. I’m 30 years old and live in Guatemala.


 
If you’re reading this I know it is not a coincidence… a lot had to happen to bring you here to learn about my story. I am convinced that miracles are a series of factors that allow things to happen.
 

I find great joy in life and the things that show up every day. I love sharing moments with my family and loved ones: chatting, laughing, joking, playing games… all of it remains not only in my memories but also in my heart.

I am an interior designer and love designing. My creative mind never shuts down! Not even in my dreams: it is always designing, analyzing, creating, solving, combining textures and colors and so on…

But I haven’t been able to work like I used to since January 2018.

In 2014 I was diagnosed with an uncommon tumor in the lower abdomen, and went through several treatments including chemotherapy. At the beginning of last year the doctors determined that it had grown back, this time it was more than 20cm long (8 inches). Because of the size, my organs were displaced and it perforated the intestine causing a serious infection.


 

I had to stay in the hospital for several weeks and couldn’t eat or drink anything. I had to have IV feeding (intra-venous) and a drainage so that the intestine would seal.

 
I also started an experimental treatment to reduce the tumor, which thanks God has worked and now the tumor is about half the size.
 

Unfortunately, the perforation has opened again 3 times, and every time I’ve had to go back to the hospital and stop eating for weeks, have a drainage again, antibiotics, run continuous tests, etc.

The doctors have come to the conclusion that every time I start eating again, the perforation opens, so I have to have emergency surgery to solve this.  The good news is that the reduced size of the tumor now allows the surgery to be possible.

This surgery will allow me to go back to living my life and will bring peace to my family, especially my mom, who has been my caretaker all this time.

WAIT… I haven’t told you the most exciting news!!

I’m getting married in August!!!

 

 
My fiancé Juanpa and me got engaged in December, when we thought the health battles were over. Juanpa has been with me all along, and we’ve had to learn to live with this; we’ve laughed and cried together, we’ve enjoyed parties and dinners with friends and we’ve learned to find joy in the hospital days, the days of rest and pain… We always find a moment to have fun and laugh, wherever we are.

My greatest dream this year is my wedding and sharing the rest of my life with Juanpa!
 
I need your help to make my dream come true!

 


The last year has drained my family’s finances and we don’t have the means to pay for the surgery. We’ve sold a property and done different activities to raise funds to pay for all the previous treatments, medications, etc.

Please help me live a normal life again, without illness, without hospitals.
 
Please let me be healthy again and be able to focus on my dreams and goals… and my wedding!!

Hola, soy Mariale. Tengo 30 años y vivo en Guatemala.

Si estás leyendo esto, sé que no es coincidencia… mucho tuvo que suceder para que te encuentres aquí leyendo mi historia. Yo estoy convencida que cada momento que vivimos es un milagro que se compone de pequeños factores que permiten que cosas maravillosas sucedan.
Disfruto mucho la vida y lo que me trae día a día. Compartir con mi familia y seres queridos es de mis cosas favoritas, pláticas, risas, bromas, juegos… todo queda grabado no solo en mis recuerdos, sino en mi corazón.

Soy diseñadora de interiores y amo mi profesión. ¡Mi mente creativa nunca se calla! Ni en los sueños se queda quieta, siempre está diseñando, analizando, creando, solucionando, combinando texturas, colores, etc.
Lamentablemente no he podido trabajar, como suelo hacerlo, desde enero del 2,018

En el 2,014 me diagnosticaron con un tumor poco conocido en el abdomen e inicié con varios tratamientos, incluyendo quimioterapias.
A principios del 2018 el tumor llegó a medir más de 20 centímetros, desplazó mis órganos del abdomen de su lugar y causó una perforación del intestino, lo que generó una infección muy seria.

Estuve internada 2 semanas en el hospital, sin poder comer ni beber nada por vía oral. Me pusieron alimentación intravenosa, y colocaron un drenaje dentro del tumor. Además me dieron antibióticos, medicamentos, transfusiones de sangre, entre otros, para que sellara el intestino.
También recibí un tratamiento experimental para reducir del tamaño del tumor gracias a Dios estas infiltraciones experimentales funcionaron y el tumor a la fecha continúa reduciendo su tamaño.

Lamentablemente la perforación se ha vuelto a abrir 3 veces más y cada vez he tenido que estar hospitalizada varios días, dejar de comer hasta 6 semanas, alimentación intravenosa, drenaje por varios meses, antibióticos, exámenes constantes, etc. La situación es que el intestino, se vuelve a abrir a las pocas semanas de empezar a comer. Por lo que este año mis médicos han decidido realizar una cirugía.

La buena noticia es que como el tumor se ha reducido a menos de la mitad del tamaño, la cirugía es posible.
Esta cirugía me permitirá volver a tener una vida normal, y le traerá paz a mi familia, en especial mi mamá, quien ha sido mi enfermera personal todo este tiempo, aparte de todas las actividades que ya realiza normalmente.

¡ESPERA!… ¡¡No te he contado las noticia más emocionante!!

¡¡Voy a casarme en agosto!!

Juanpa y yo nos comprometimos en diciembre, cuando pensamos que las batallas por mi salud eran parte del pasado. Juanpa ha estado a mi lado todo este tiempo y hemos tenido que aprender a vivir con ello. Hemos reído y llorado juntos, hemos aprendido a disfrutar juntos no solo de fiestas, cenas y salidas con amigos, sino también aprendimos a disfrutar de los días de hospital, días de dolor, de reposo… Siempre encontramos un momento de diversión y risas a pesar de donde estemos.
Mi mayor ilusión este año es mi boda, y compartir el resto de mi vida con Juanpa!

Necesito tu ayuda para que mi sueño se haga realidad!

El ultimo año ha drenado las finanzas de mi familia y no tenemos cómo cubrir los gastos de la cirugía. Hemos vendido una propiedad y realizado diferentes actividades para recaudar fondos, para pagar todos los tratamientos y procedimientos anteriores.
Por favor ayúdame a vivir de nuevo una vida normal, sin enfermedad, sin hospitales. Por favor dame la oportunidad de estar sana de nuevo y poder enfocarme en mis sueños y metas… y en mi boda!!
