Estudios y terapias para Sofia

Donation protected

Hi, my name is Sofia and I´m 6 years old. When I was 6 months the doctors diagnosed me with Hypoplasia Corpus Callosumwhich makes it difficult for my two sides of the brain to communicate well and, among other things, my psychomotor skills have been quite affected and because of that I cannot say word, I cannot walk, I do not have much of a balance, I cannot chew my meals and it is hard for me to grasp things.

I was born in Mexico, where, when I was 6 months old, I began my therapy. We moved to the USA when I was 1 year and 3 months old because my doctors in Mexico advised my mom and daddy that here I would have more opportunities, better therapies and technologies to help me fight my psychomotor delay.

Since I arrived to USA I have had the fortune to do more language, physical and occupational therapies. I have improved, but along the way my parents were informed that I also suffer from cerebral palsy and my back, feet, hands, eyes and ears have also been affected. Because of this, I have to visit back, feet, eyes and ears specialists.

My diagnostic is quite complicated and I need to have several medical examinations to try to understand what is really happening inside my brain, how it affects my body and to try to determine which are the best tools for my treatment.

These medical examinations include magnetic resonance scan (MRI scan) to see how my brain has responded from the first time the doctors diagnosed the malformation of my corpus callosum, eye exams to see how my brain interprets images, hearing exams to know how much and how I hear, cerebral and spine exams because I my back has a slight curvature, as well as a genetic exam to determine the cause of what happened to me. I also need splints and diverse devices that will support me while I learn to walk, grab objects with my hands, devices to help me communicate and more therapies and exercises in the therapy pool.

At the moment I do not have a medical insurance and my parents do not have sufficient money to pay for what is mentioned before, which costs $21,000.00 approximately. My Mom must spend her time accompanying me to my therapies and my Dad works very hard to cover the costs. They want to give me all they can so I can get better, knowing that since I am just a kid my brain - with the appropriate help - can learn to compensate its flaws and I, within reason, may be a normal girl and lead a normal life.

If you cannot help me with monetary funds, I would like to thank you for taking your time to read my story and I will kindly ask you for a very big favor: please help me by sharing my plea.

I thank you from the bottom of my heart!!!
