Help Me Complete My First Year at Columbia University

Less than 1% of students from Mexico who are admitted to Ivy League universities—considered among the most prestigious and competitive in the world—come from the state of Hidalgo.

This September, after years of preparation, I have the opportunity to begin my master’s program Critical, Curatorial and Conceptual Practices in Architecture at Columbia University in New York, becoming part of that very small percentage.

In 2025, I received the Architectural League Prize, one of the most important recognitions for emerging architects in North America. Columbia has awarded me one of the highest scholarships for international students, and I was also granted the Support for Cultural and Artistic Professionals for Graduate Studies Abroad 2025, provided by Mexico’s Ministry of Culture and SECIHTI. Even with this support, I still need to raise 120,000 Mexican pesos (about 7,000 USD) to complete the tuition for my first year of the two-year program. All funds will go exclusively toward the remaining tuition balance.

My name is Karina Caballero, an architect from Hidalgo. My work seeks to strengthen culture and social infrastructure in vulnerable communities. Studying at Columbia will allow me to return to Mexico with the tools to develop cultural projects that foster care, education, and civic participation.

Your support will not only make this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity possible, but will also help ensure that more stories like mine can become a reality. Any contribution—or simply sharing this campaign—will make a meaningful difference.

Thank you for believing in this dream!
