He was immediately taken to a psychologist, who then referred him to a psychiatrist. After several evaluations, the psychiatrist suspected a neurological condition and recommended further testing.

<div>A neurologist later confirmed that Alejandro needed specialized medical exams. These tests had to be performed in the United States, costing the family US$3,500. The results revealed that Alejandro has MOGAD—a rare autoimmune disease that can cause optic neuritis, paralysis, and other severe neurological complications if left untreated.

<div>To begin his treatment, Alejandro must undergo a lumbar puncture so that doctors can analyze his cerebrospinal fluid and determine the best treatment plan for him. This crucial procedure must also be carried out in the United States and costs an additional US$5,500.
