Adiós amigo, colega y guardabosque
Es con gran pesar que compartimos con ustedes la partida de nuestro amigo y colega, el Guardabosques Omar Ponce Toledo, quien falleció de manera inesperada la noche del 15 de junio de 2017. Omar partió en el lugar que tanto amó y cuidó: los bosques de la selva valdiviana en el sur de Chile al lado del océano Pacífico.

Omar fue Guardabosques de la Reserva Costera Valdiviana, trabajando con The Nature Conservancy desde 2006. Omar era un gran compañero de trabajo y excelente persona, respetuoso, amante de su trabajo y de la naturaleza. Tenía un corazón gigante y estaba feliz por su vida y por sus logros personales, familiares y profesionales. Sin duda lo extrañaremos mucho.

Gracias, Omar por tu generosidad, tu alegría y entusiasmo ante los nuevos desafíos. Fuiste un gran guardabosques, Omar, y también un guardaespaldas de tu familia, amigos y colegas.

Adiós.

Omar Ponce fue un gran ejemplo para sus colegas en The Nature Conservancy, un ejemplo de un buen hombre que amó la naturaleza y su planeta, y que hizo de su cuidado una parte importante de su vida. Farewell to our friend and colleague
It is with great sadness that we share the news with you that our dear colleague Omar Ponce passed away unexpectedly on the night of June 15, 2017 in the place he loved and cherished: the Valdivian coastal forests overlooking the sea in southern Chile.

Omar was a Park Ranger in the Valdivian Coastal Reserve that is home to some of the world’s last temperate rainforests in the south of Chile. He was a wonderful colleague and person, who took care of the forests and who took care of people. Respectful and respected, Omar was a true lover of nature and absolutely dedicated to his work. He was an incredibly generous and kind soul, and considered himself a lucky man: he was living where he wanted, with those he loved –his wife, daughter and son—and doing what he loved doing.

We will miss him dearly. Thank you, Omar for your generosity, your warm smile and your enthusiasm and strength when facing the challenges of life. You are returning to your true roots: those native forests that you cared for so much, and that knew you so well. Goodbye, Omar.

Omar Ponce was an example for many of us in The Nature Conservancy, an example of a good man who loved nature and made it his life’s work.
