Ella es Yanilka Lantigua Nuñez, con 25 años de edad. Es una de las personas más alegres y carismáticas que podrías conocer, con una risa que contagia a todos los que la rodean. Es una joven llena de vida y de ilusiones y hasta hace unos meses con una vida normal.

Uno de sus sueños era irse y realizar una maestría en España.Y con mucho esfuerzo, consiguió una beca. Hace unos meses durante su estadía en Madrid, Yani (como solemos llamarla) empezó a sentir cambios en ella. Lejos de sus familiares, recibió la noticia de que tenía un probable cáncer.

Decidimos que lo mejor era regresar a República Dominicana. Llegó al país hace dos meses y ha estado de clínica en clínica, de cirugía en cirugía, de estudio en estudio, y el "cáncer" que se mostraba en la tomografía no aparecía en las biopsias. Los doctores estaban desconcertados. Pero un martes cambió todo, ya tenían un diagnóstico: SÍNDROME HEMOFAGOCITICO. Es una enfermedad rara, donde las células que cuidan al cuerpo se atacan entre ellas, y existe una inflamación sistémica descontrolada, que de no tratarse adecuadamente puede ser mortal. Yani es la primera con este síndrome en el país, y los doctores no están seguros de cómo proseguir con su caso.

Este síndrome le ha inflamado el hígado, el bazo, los ganglios, no tolera alimentos sólidos, ha recibido transfusiones de sangre, de plasma, de plaquetas, y lo que más le molesta es la hinchazón en su pancita y no poder comer. Queremos llevar a Yani a un Centro Hospitalario donde estén familiarizados y traten la enfermedad de manera satisfactoria, y el tratamiento más accesible está en Miami, en el Jackson Memorial Hospital, dicho monto del tratamiento exceden a US $400,000.000.

Nosotros como familia no podemos costear los gastos solos, por eso para lograrlo nos dirigimos a ustedes para solicitar su ayuda. Tenemos una deuda en el centro donde está actualmente hospitalizada porque su seguro médico no fue aceptado. El tratamiento incluye quimioterapia por varios meses y medicinas para reducir la inflamación. Yani debe salir del país en ambulancia aérea donde tengan los cuidados necesarios para que llegue estable, lo antes posible.

Y como diría ella: “Ayúdenme a volver a comer y a vivir. Tengo mucha fe en Dios de que podré sobrepasar este mal momento y sé también que hay muchos ángeles en la tierra que me ayudarán a lograrlo”.

One of her dreams was to obtain a Master's degree in Spain. And with effort she got a scholarship. A few months ago, during her stay in Madrid, Yani (as we usually call her) began to feel changes in her body. She was diagnosed with presumable cancer, far from us, her relatives.

She arrived in the country two months ago and has been from clinic to clinic, from surgery to surgery, from imaging to imaging. The "cancer" seen on the tomography did not appear in the biopsies. The doctors were puzzled. But, one Tuesday, everything changed. They found a diagnosis: HEMOPHAGOCYTIC LYMPHOHISTIOCYTOSIS. It is a rare disease where the cells that take care of the body attack each other, and there is an uncontrolled systemic inflammation, with the wrong treatment can be fatal. According to what the doctors told us, Yani is the first with this diagnosis in the country, and they are unsure of how to proceed with her case.

Her health has worsened in these months of waiting. This syndrome has swollen her liver, spleen, and lymph nodes. She has received blood, plasma, and platelet transfusions, and what bothers her most is the swelling in her belly and not being able to tolerate solid foods. We want to take Yani to a center where doctors are familiarized with the disease and can treat it satisfactorily. The most accessible center is the Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami and the costs exceed US$400,000.00

We as a family cannot pay the expenses alone, so to achieve this, we are reaching you to request your help. We have a debt in the center where she currently is, her medical insurance was not accepted. Treatment includes chemotherapy for several months and drugs to reduce inflammation. Yani must leave the country by air ambulance, where they will have the necessary care so that she arrives stable, as soon as possible.
