<div>Hace un año un estatus epiléptico cambió nuestras vidas. Las crisis no se detenían y los médicos tuvieron que inducirla al coma para salvarla. Durante ese proceso sufrió dos paros cardiorrespiratorios que provocaron una lesión cerebral. Desde entonces Mary no habla, no sonríe, no puede moverse y su mirada parece perdida.

<div>De pequeña fue una niña risueña, curiosa y de carácter fuerte. Amaba los colores pastel, las princesas y la magia. A los tres años, una encefalitis cambió su historia. Desde entonces vive con epilepsia refractaria, una forma de epilepsia de difícil control.

<div>Sus crisis eran intensas e impredecibles, podían aparecer en cualquier momento: en la escuela, en la calle o en casa: su cuerpo temblaba, perdía el conocimiento y quedaba agotada y desubicada.

<div>A lo largo de los años enfrentó dificultades de aprendizaje, depresión e incomprensión escolar. Pero también mostró una fortaleza extraordinaria. Mary nunca dejó de luchar.

<div>Terminó la preparatoria a pesar de todo. Entró a clases de dibujo y expuso una de sus obras en una muestra de arte. Aprendió a no quedarse callada, a defenderse a ella y a sus compañeros cuando veía injusticias. Nunca dejó de levantarse después de cada tormenta.

<div>Para explicar cómo se sentían sus crisis, dibujó una niña con una tormenta en la cabeza. Decía que así se sentían sus crisis: como una tormenta que aparece de repente dentro de su mente, dejando daños a su paso.

<div>El año pasado, en enero 2025 ocurrió algo que cambió todo.
</div>
<div>Mary presentó un estatus epiléptico que la llevó al hospital. Fue necesario intubarla e inducirla al coma para detener las crisis. Estuvo en el hospital por casi tres meses, durante ese tiempo sufrió dos paros cardiorrespiratorios que provocaron una lesión cerebral.

<div>Desde entonces Mary no habla ni puede moverse.
</div>
<div>Respira por una traqueotomía, la alimentamos por una sonda y necesita ayuda para todo.
</div>
<div>Pero seguimos teniendo fe en que se va a recuperar.
</div>
